About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our growing integrated renewable energy and property upgrade company.
This is a pivotal role responsible for coordinating tender submissions and producing accurate, competitive costings across all projects — from domestic installations through to larger commercial contracts.
You will work closely with the sales, operations, and finance teams to ensure that every quote we issue is commercially sound, technically accurate, and delivered on time.
Location
Based at our Poole, Dorset office. Some travel to our offices and to working sites is required; you will need to use your own car, with mileage and travel costs reimbursed.

Key Responsibilities
Tender coordination
- Manage the end-to-end tender process, from initial enquiry through to submission
- Review tender documents, drawings, and specifications to identify scope, risks, and opportunities
- Liaise with clients and main contractors to clarify requirements and resolve queries
- Maintain a tender register, tracking submission deadlines, outcomes, and win/loss analysis
Costing and estimating
- Produce detailed cost estimates for solar PV installations (panels, inverters, batteries, mounting systems) and window installations (frames, glazing units, ancillaries) in particular
- Calculate labour requirements, plant, materials, scaffolding, access equipment, and preliminaries
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, negotiating where appropriate
- Apply appropriate margins, contingencies, and overheads in line with company commercial policy
- Prepare priced bills of quantities and schedules of work
Site surveys and technical assessment
- Conduct site surveys to verify measurements, access, structural considerations, and installation constraints
- Assess roof condition, orientation, shading, and pitch for solar installations
- Take accurate window measurements and identify any associated builders' work
- Photograph and document site conditions to support accurate costing
Commercial and administrative
- Issue formal quotations and tender returns to clients within agreed timescales
- Support contract negotiations and handover meetings with the operations team upon award
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, supplier pricing, and historical cost data
- Contribute to the development of standard rates, pricing tools, and estimating templates
- Monitor market pricing for materials and report on cost trends affecting tender pricing
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven estimating or surveying experience within construction, building services, renewables, or fenestration
- Strong understanding of solar PV systems and/or window installation methods, materials, and standards
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and tender documents
- Confident producing detailed costings from first principles
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Full UK driving licence (site visits required)
Desirable
- Relevant qualification in quantity surveying, construction management, building services, or a related discipline
- Knowledge of MCS standards, Building Regulations Part L, and FENSA / CERTASS requirements
- Experience tendering for public sector or framework contracts
- Working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations
- Membership of a professional body (RICS, CIOB, or equivalent)
