About the role
We are growing quickly and delivering major projects across the nuclear, renewables, water and oil & gas sectors. As our workload continues to expand, we are looking for an enthusiastic Sales & Project Engineer to join our team in Swansea. Much of the role will initially focus on estimating and preparing competitive quotations for bespoke steel fabrication and mechanical engineering projects, before progressing into broader project management responsibilities.
This is a cradle-to-grave role, covering the full project lifecycle from estimating, quoting and securing contracts through to purchasing materials, producing job cards and work instructions for the Production department, overseeing delivery to the customer and acting as the main point of contact throughout.
Key responsibilities
· Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and client requirements to understand the full scope of each enquiry.
· Prepare accurate take-offs, estimates and quotations for bespoke steel fabrication and mechanical engineering projects.
· Source supplier and subcontractor prices, assess costs and build competitive tender submissions.
· Present estimates for internal review, support final settlement and assist in securing contracts.
· Following contract award, support project handover and ensure all key commercial, technical and programme information is clearly communicated.
· Purchase materials and coordinate with suppliers to support production schedules and project delivery requirements.
· Produce job cards, work instructions and supporting documentation for the Production department.
· Liaise closely with production, procurement, quality and project delivery teams to keep work progressing smoothly.
· Monitor progress through manufacture, resolve practical issues and help ensure projects are delivered to specification, budget and programme.
· Act as a key point of contact for customers, suppliers and internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
· Identify practical, cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements while supporting business objectives.
What we’re looking for
· Previous estimating experience would be advantageous, ideally within steel fabrication, mechanical engineering, construction or another related technical environment.
· Applications are also welcomed from recent graduates with a mechanical engineering discipline who are keen to develop a career in estimating and project management.
· A good technical understanding, with the ability or willingness to learn how to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and tender documents.
· Strong numeracy skills, accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to build clear and reliable estimates.
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills, with confidence dealing with clients, suppliers and internal teams.
· Good organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
· A proactive and practical approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· A willingness to learn the full project lifecycle, from quotation through to delivery and customer handover.
· A commercial mindset and commitment to supporting the performance of the business.
