Location: Weymouth, Dorset

Company: Sumac Precision Engineering Ltd

Sumac Precision Engineering is offering an exciting opportunity to join our 4-year Apprenticeship

Programme, designed to develop new technical skills while working toward nationally recognised

qualifications in a high-performing engineering environment.

This opportunity is ideal for motivated individuals looking to begin a career in Precision Engineering,

with options available in Machining, Fabrication & Welding, or Inspection & Quality. The programme

is open to applicants of all ages (training duration may vary depending on age and prior

qualifications).

Apprenticeship Pathways:

Option 1: Machining

Training in both manual and CNC machining operations

Use of industry-standard machine tools and programming software

Practical skills development in tooling, precision measuring, and part setup

Involvement in fitting and assembly work

Option 2: Fabrication & Welding

Training in a range of fabrication and welding techniques (MIG, TIG, etc.)

Understanding weld procedures, materials, and visual inspection

Practical involvement in cutting, forming, and structural assembly

Participation in fitting and assembly processes

Option 3: Inspection & Quality

Hands-on training in dimensional and visual inspection of machined/fabricated parts

Use of precision measuring equipment (Micrometers, Verniers, Height Gauges, etc.)

Introduction to FAIRs, non-conformance reporting, and quality control standards

Exposure to AS9100 and ISO 9001 compliance requirements

What We’re Looking For:

A strong interest in engineering and problem-solving

Good attention to detail and a willingness to learn

Effective communication and teamwork skills

GCSEs in Maths, English, and a Science or Technical subject (preferred)

Core working hours are 8 am to 4 pm Monday to Thursday and 8 am to 1 pm Friday (including
