Position: Terminal Maintenance Engineer
Portland Bunkers UK (PBUK) seeks a Terminal Maintenance Engineer to join our team at our bunkering facility within Portland Port.
In this role you will undertake as part of a team the operation and maintenance of the bunker supply terminal at Portland, performing set tasks within PBUK Planned Maintenance System and carry out breakdown Maintenance (as and when required).
This will be on a day work basis working 8-hour shifts Monday to Friday but may also include some night & weekend working as operations dictate.
The post holder is responsible to the Terminal Management for ensuring that the PBUK jetty along with the associated utilities and tank storage are maintained and operated safely and efficiently on a continuous basis in accordance with relevant Government Legislation and Company Regulations.
Working Hours/Place of work
Working hours will be 5 days a week (08:00 – 16:30) Monday to Friday but may also include some night & weekend working as operations dictate. Overtime at an enhanced rate will be available.
This is an in-person position and will require you to attend the place of work at Portland Bunkers UK bunkering terminal, within the Portland Port Estate, Dorset.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of terminal equipment, including:
o Oil pipelines, bunds and tanks.
o Loading arms and transfer hoses.
o Actuated and manual gate valves.
o Industrial boilers.
o Mechanical pumps and centrifugal pumps, Variable Speed Drives and Motors.
o Air compressors.
o Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
o Oil transfer metering and monitoring systems.
o 12/240/440v electrical systems.
o Buildings, storage areas, controls, and general oil terminal equipment
- Generate and prioritise maintenance and repair requirements in conjunction with the PBUK planned maintenance system.
- Generate maintenance/breakdown reports to feed back into the PBUK planned maintenance system.
- Initiate alterations/amendments to the planned maintenance system and Operations manuals as appropriate where changes occur.
- Tracking and producing emails relating to maintenance and operations as required.
- Operate boilers, plant and equipment as required.
- Assist in the control of oil movements between tanks and jetty by setting up of dedicated pipeline systems to allow the safe and efficient import and export of products, the discharge of import tankers and the loading of barges.
- Monitor movements between jetty/ship with particular regard to environmental protection.
- Install and/or replace new or reconditioned parts to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
- Conduct functional testing and verification of equipment readiness following maintenance or rebuild activities.
- Interpret and work from mechanical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Perform basic troubleshooting on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Supervise and coach personnel on specific tasks or assignments when required.
- Assist and Supervise contractors while on site ensuring they follow the permit to work system.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Support equipment mobilisation, preparation, and readiness for project deployment.
- Work across multiple environments including workshop, external pipeline/equipment routes, dock side over water, at height and confined spaces as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement through feedback on equipment performance and maintenance practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Technical School certificate or equivalent in a mechanical discipline.
- Approximately 5 years’ experience in a related mechanical, maintenance, or marine/oilfield services role (or equivalent experience).
- Basic computer skills, including emails, Word, Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings and schematics.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Basic electrical knowledge and problem-solving ability.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to safe working practices and operational excellence.
- Capable of working independently or as part of a multitasked team.
- Full UK Driving License, as you will be required to drive company vehicles.
Desirable Experience:
- Familiarity with pipelines, pumps, hydraulic systems, and oil terminal equipment.
- Experience with rigging and lifting operations.
- Forklift truck licence.
- MEWP license.
Leadership & Initiative of Job:
- The Maintenance Engineer reports directly to the Terminal Management, having a support responsibility to them.
- Performs assigned tasks with minimal supervision while supporting team objectives.
- Demonstrates strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work in challenging environments.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position, with a starting salary of £45,000.00 per annum.
Portland Bunkers UK benefits include employer retirement contributions; annual paid leave entitlement of 22days per year plus paid bank holidays, enhanced overtime rate at time and quarter, as well as employee bonus schemes.
