Company Description

Working as a partnership, both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust have a shared vision for excellence in care for our patients and communities; with a set of strategic aims underpinning how we will achieve this.

The single corporate service is delivered across both organisation. You may be based at either IWT or PHU and individuals may be required to undertake business travel between sites. For leaders managing staff across multi-site locations, you will need to be visible and provide in person leadership. The arrangements and frequency will be agreed locally.

NHS Band 3 - Salary £24,937 - £26,598

Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust)

Contract Type: Secondment - 9 months ending May 2027

Location - Base location Queen Alexandra Hospital, Southwick Hill Road, Portsmouth

An exciting opportunity for a 9 month secondment has arisen to join our Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team. Would you relish the opportunity to expand your knowledge and gain new skills in Infection Prevention and Control.

The IPC team at Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust are looking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic IPC Practitioner for 22.5 hours per week for a 9 month secondment.

The main duties of this role include:

To actively assist the Infection Prevention Team (IPT) in the delivery of safe, clean care.
To actively promote best practice relating to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in clinical areas.
To carry out audit and surveillance programmes relating to IPC practices including decontamination of equipment and the environment.
Support and assist the IPT in outbreak management.
Support and assist the IPT in the delivery of infection prevention education.
Have regular contact with clinical areas providing support and advice on IPC issues whilst promoting evidence-based practice.
Act as a patient advocate, ensuring that any patient care reflects best practice with regards to infection prevention.
Promote and develop best practice in order to reduce and prevent Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) across the Trust.

Qualifications

Essential

NVQ III in Health and Social Care, QFC diploma in level 3 or equivalent.
GCSE in maths and English or equivalent numeracy and literacy skills at level 2.

Experience

Essential

Experience of working with Word, Outlook, Excel and Microsoft Office software.
Can demonstrate attitude and aptitude appropriate for the post.
Previous NHS experience in a clinical environment.

Knowledge

Essential

Has insight into the role and specialty of IPC.
Good verbal and written skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Good understanding of patient safety.
Able to demonstrate the importance of confidentiality.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work both as part of a team and independently demonstrating initiative.
Effective patient care skills relevant to the role.
Ability to prioritise workload.
