Role Purpose
The Community & Events Fundraiser plays a key role in generating vital voluntary income for St Kentigern Hospice by developing, delivering and growing a varied program of community and events fundraising activity.
This role is responsible for supporting and inspiring individuals, community groups, volunteers and local organisations to fundraise for the hospice, while also leading on the planning and delivery of selected in-house and third-party events. The postholder will focus on building strong local relationships, maximising income and return on investment, and ensuring supporters receive excellent stewardship and support throughout their fundraising journey.
Key Responsibilities
Community Fundraising
- Develop, grow and manage a portfolio of community fundraising activity, including individual supporters, community groups, clubs, schools and local organisations.
- Support supporters undertaking their own fundraising activities, providing guidance, materials and encouragement to maximise income and ensure a positive experience.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups, committees and volunteers, encouraging repeat and long-term support for the hospice.
- Identify new opportunities for community fundraising growth and proactively develop these into sustainable income streams.
- Attend community fundraising events as required, including evenings and weekends, acting as an ambassador for the hospice.
Events Fundraising
- Lead on the planning, delivery and evaluation of selected in-house fundraising events, ensuring they are well-managed, compliant and achieve agreed income targets.
- Analyse and review the existing events portfolio, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, innovation and return on investment.
- Produce detailed event plans, budgets and timelines, providing regular progress updates to the Fundraising Manager.
- Conduct post-event evaluations, reporting on income, expenditure, ROI and learning outcomes.
- Identify and support third-party and corporate fundraising events where appropriate, ensuring they align with hospice values and objectives.
Income, Budgeting and Reporting
- Work towards agreed income targets across community and events fundraising.
- Monitor event and community fundraising budgets, reporting on variances and implementing solutions where required.
- Maintain accurate financial and activity records, ensuring income is correctly recorded and allocated.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the Fundraising Manager and contribute to team performance reporting.
Supporter Care, Stewardship and Compliance
- Ensure all supporters receive excellent stewardship, recognition and timely thanks, encouraging repeat and long-term engagement.
- Ensure fundraising activity complies with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice, GDPR, and hospice policies.
- Act responsibly when working with vulnerable adults, always following safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Manage fundraising materials and merchandise, ensuring stock control procedures are followed.
Communications, PR and promotion
- Work closely with the Communications & Marketing team to promote fundraising activity through social media, press, photography and other channels.
- Assist with press releases, photo calls, interviews and promotional opportunities.
- Deliver talks, presentations and speeches to community audiences as required, representing the hospice professionally and confidently.
- Develop a strong understanding of hospice services to communicate impact clearly and accurately.
Administration
- Maintain accurate records on the Harlequin CRM (or successor system), ensuring supporter and event data is up to date.
- Keep clear records of event plans, risk assessments, evaluations and income.
- Contribute to the wider work of the Fundraising Team, attending meetings and supporting colleagues when required.
- Undertake mandatory training and comply with hospice policies and procedures.
Other
- Attend staff meetings for the Hospice as appropriate.
- Provide regular updates and feedback to Fundraising Managers and Senior Management Team as required.
- Undertake and comply with mandatory staff training.
- Must be prepared to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as the role demands. Time off in lieu is given for this.
- A full driving license and the use of your car are required. Expenses will be paid in line with St Kentigern's travel and expenses policy.
- All staff are necessary to comply with St Kentigern Hospice policies and procedures, including confidentiality, equal opportunities and data protection.
- It is expected that you will be committed to the core purpose of the Hospice and will act as an ambassador for it, actively promoting the Hospice throughout your role. It is also hoped that, as the Hospice is heavily reliant on charitable donations, you will support promotional activities where possible, demonstrating your support to your colleagues in the spirit of teamwork.
- Professionally act at all times, respecting the needs of colleagues and volunteers and cooperating to maintain a positive working environment.
- Willingness to undertake a DBS check.

- Be competent with Microsoft Office, familiar with Harlequin or other fundraising databases and, ideally, social media platforms
- Proven ability to build influential relationships at all levels
