Our Pharmacy teams are looking to appoint to a two-year fixed term training contract, based across sites at both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital. The department provides an extensive range of services where Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs) play an important role working alongside pharmacists, medicines management pharmacy technicians, pharmacy support staff and other healthcare professionals.
Your responsibilities will be varied and include medicines management duties at ward level undertaking medicines reconciliation, assessing patients own medicines for suitability and ordering medication for individual patients. The role is integral in providing a quality dispensing and medicines management service for all patients within the Trust.
The salary for this training post is £21,809 in the first year, rising to £23.367 in the second year. You will receive 27 days annual leave per year plus Bank Holidays. *(Please note The post is paid at Band 4 Annex 21 for trainees’ as per agenda for change pay scale 01.04.26. i.e. the top of a band 4 scale at 70% in first year and 75% in second year, or minimum wage if this is greater.)
You will follow a comprehensive training programme that will cover all aspects of hospital pharmacy; to include placements within stores and procurement, aseptics, clinical trials, outpatient pharmacy; receiving, validating and issuing medicines, as well as the opportunity to undertake a community pharmacy and mental health placements. Students will study virtually via Bradford College on a day release to achieve BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Technicians. Students will receive full support from an Educational Supervisor and qualified pharmacy assessors to complete the qualification.
Candidates should possess a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at Grade A*- C or 4 – 9 to include English Language, Maths, Chemistry and Biology (Dual or Combined Science Award accepted) plus one other subject or equivalent qualification.
You will have had experience in a busy dispensary and have excellent knowledge of the post, be enthusiastic, self- motivated, hardworking and possess good organisational and communication skills with a commitment to both the pharmacy department and to their training.
On successful completion of their training, qualified technicians must register with the General Pharmaceutical Council in order to practice within the pharmacy profession.

Duties to include, but not be limited to:
Communicates all relevant information and advice to pharmacy staff, nurses, patients and service users as required
Support the Department to deliver a safe and high-quality service for patients and staff.
Contributes to effective team working within pharmacy
Comply with legal and organisational requirements, standards and codes of practice on equality, diversity, discrimination and rights relevant to own role and responsibilities
Completes BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Technicians, during 2-year training to enable registration as a Pharmacy Technician with GPhC
Complete in-house training
To ensure the quality of quality-of-service provision
To comply with current legislation, policy, good practice, organisational and professional codes of practice and ethical standards
To ensure any incidents and near misses are identified, reported and recorded according to Trust policy.
Contribute to the formal handling and investigating of complaints, error reports, accident/incident reports and monitor for preventative and/or corrective action and improvement
Proactively manage risk and maintain safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
To contribute to the delivery and achievement of the department Service Plan and specific service improvements.
To support the department to deliver PET targets and achieve financial balance.
