About the role

The School of Education and Social Work is seeking a successful Early Years teacher educator to take a significant role in Early Years Initial Teacher Education at the University and across our growing partnership.

It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to our established and successful Early Years Education MA (with EYTS) and MA in Early Years Education courses, to offer specialist subject knowledge and pedagogic expertise in Early Years. Across both programmes we recruit around 30 students each year, and courses are delivered in partnership with primary/EY school/settings across Sussex. Contributions to the course will include teaching on core modules, supervising students during professional practice as well as providing academic supervision with Masters level assignments.

We are seeking someone who, in addition to having experience and expertise in Early Years education, is also interested and engaged in scholarship in education. Experience in Primary education is desired but not essential,

About you

We are seeking someone who has either Early Years Teaching Status or Qualified Teacher Status. You will also have experience of successful teaching in the birth to five age range in settings within a UK context, including expertise and experience of supporting play/SEND/safeguarding/wellbeing.

Ideally you will be educated to Masters level or other appropriate qualification, or appropriate level of experience. You will have excellent presentation skills, with an ability to communicate effectively to both students, colleagues and external audiences. An ability to work individually on your own initiative, yet also work as part of a team is essential.

You will have excellent organisation skills and be able to prioritise to meet deadlines, with an ability to employ strong IT skills, in order to support the production of high-quality inclusive learning materials.

It would be desirable if you have had recent experience of mentoring Early Years student teachers, and also interested and engaged in scholarship in education.
