Full job description

Pharmidex is seeking a motivated and reliable Animal Technician to join our Biological Services Unit in Hatfield. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with at least 1 year of experience working with rodents in a laboratory or regulated environment who is passionate about animal welfare and maintaining high standards of husbandry.

The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day care and welfare of animals while ensuring compliance with Home Office and regulatory requirements.

Key ResponsibilitiesAnimal Husbandry

Carry out daily animal checks and welfare observations
Perform routine husbandry duties including cleaning, feeding, watering, and weighing animals
Monitor animal health and report any concerns promptly
Receive and unpack animal deliveries

Record Keeping

Maintain accurate records of daily activities and observations
Monitor and document environmental conditions within the facility

Facility Maintenance

Operate cage and bottle washing equipment
Prepare clean cages, bottles, and equipment for use
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the facility
Handle waste disposal in accordance with company procedures

Additional Duties

Receive and store consumables and supplies
Assist with basic equipment maintenance and general facility support

Requirements

Minimum 1 year of experience working with rodents in a laboratory or similar environment
Good understanding of animal welfare and regulatory compliance
Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Animal care qualification desirable but not essential

Working Hours

Monday to Friday
Occasional overtime may be required
Weekend work on a rota basis may be required
