The Role & Key Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Secretary to join the Corporate Development Department (CDD), providing high-level administrative and organisational support to the Senior Management Team.

The Corporate Development Department brings together key central functions that support Sussex Police in planning for the future, delivering strategic insight, service improvement, and assurance. The team works closely with Chief Officers and departments across the Force to manage corporate risk, monitor performance, and ensure continuous improvement in services to the public.

As a Senior Secretary, you will:

Act as the primary point of contact for the Senior Management Team, ensuring their time is used effectively.
Manage senior managers’ emails and diaries, prioritising and resolving queries proactively.
Provide comprehensive secretarial support, including arranging meetings, preparing documentation, and formatting reports.
Organise meetings end-to-end, including preparing and distributing papers in advance.
Take accurate minutes, track actions, and ensure timely distribution aligned with meeting requirements.
Maintain structured and effective electronic filing systems.
Communicate confidently with internal and external stakeholders, responding to queries and managing visitors professionally.
Arrange travel and accommodation for Senior Management Team, ensuring all financial processes are recorded and auditable.
Provide cover and support across the CDD secretarial team as required.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone who is:

Highly organised, with a proactive approach to diary and workload management.
Skilled in prioritisation, problem solving and negotiation.
An excellent communicator, both written and verbal, with strong interpersonal skills.
Experienced in providing high-quality administrative and secretarial support.
Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook (diary management) and MS Teams.

It would be desirable for you to have:

Experience within a policing or public-sector environment.
Experience in coordinating meetings and minute-taking.
