Company Description
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they’re likely to die from.
The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.
We want a different society than the one we live in now. Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life, through 3 ways:
-
Growing and transforming our direct care and support
-
Delivering more practical information and support
-
Leading in shaping the end-of-life experience
Our Edinburgh IPU is a leading provider of specialist care, dedicated to delivering exceptional support to individuals with complex health needs. As part of a wider integrated healthcare service, our unit offers a safe, nurturing, and respectful environment that focuses on holistic wellbeing, dignity, and the enhancement of life for our patients and their families.
Our team is composed of skilled professionals including doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, and support staff who work collaboratively to deliver evidence-based care. We are committed to ongoing professional development, innovation, and excellence in practice.
Job Description
We are currently recruiting multiple Band 5 Registered Nurses to join our compassionate and skilled team at the Edinburgh Marie Curie Hospice In-Patient Unit. Your role will include morning rounds, liaising with doctors, preparing syringe drivers, administering pain management, and attending multidisciplinary team meetings. You’ll also manage admissions and discharges and provide sensitive, empathetic support to families during times of change.
You’ll be central to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care plans, working collaboratively with patients, families, and the wider clinical team to uphold the highest standards of care. If you’re passionate about delivering holistic, dignified care in a supportive and professional environment, we’d love to welcome you to our team.
Key responsibilities include:
-
Providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients admitted to the IPU.

-
Promoting dignity, respect, and compassion in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
-
Supporting patient and family education, advocacy, and involvement in care decisions.

Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control.
What we’re looking for:
-
Demonstrated understanding and experience in palliative and end of life care.
-
A Registered Nurse with current level 1 NMC registration
-
A holistic and person-centred approach to nursing practice
