Applicants are invited to apply for the role of Information Officer, within the Information Management Department, Continuous Improvement & Analytics Directorate, reporting to a Higher Information Officer overseen by the Information Rights Managers.

The post is based in the department’s Information Rights Team at Essex Police Headquarters, in Chelmsford. At this time the team are predominantly working from home as the Home - based Agile working 80/20 typology (80% at home).

The main duties associated to the role are administering and processing information applications received by Essex Police under the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and from the Family Courts.

The post holder will log applications, conduct research across Essex Police IT systems and departments, and collate and compile relevant information held. They will then review that information, editing it as is necessary, before disclosing it to applicants in accordance with legal requirements. The role requires maintaining logs to ensure an evidential audit trail of the decision-making process is recorded.

The subject matter researched may involve disturbing material relating to vulnerable victims and the post holder will have to review and assess for possible disclosure. The role requires assessing media such as body worn video, CCTV and interviews for release applying redaction where necessary.

In addition, the post holder will provide advice and guidance to members of the public, colleagues within Essex Police, and a range of partners (i.e. local authorities etc.) in relation to wider data protection and freedom of information matters – mainly centred around disclosure of information.

Treating others with respect, tolerance and compassion, whilst communicating calmy in clear and simple language.
Relevant work experience within a customer services environment requiring good interpersonal skills.
