Job Summary
We are looking for a friendly, organised, and customer-focused Optical Assistant / Receptionist to join our team at Clifton Opticians.
You will be the first point of contact for patients, providing excellent customer service while supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
This role combines front-of-house reception duties with assisting optical staff in delivering high-quality eye care services.
Reception & Customer Service
- Greet patients warmly and manage check-ins and appointments
- Answer phone calls, emails, and enquiries in a professional manner
- Schedule, cancel, and reschedule appointments efficiently
- Handle patient records and maintain confidentiality
- Process payments, issue receipts, and manage billing queries
Optical Assistance
- Help patients choose frames and lenses to suit their needs and preferences
- Provide basic advice on lens types, coatings, and optical products
- Assist with fitting and adjusting glasses
- Support optometrists and dispensing staff during clinics
- Maintain and organise stock, including frames, lenses, and accessories
Administrative Duties
- Maintain accurate patient records and update databases
- File documentation and manage correspondence
- Ensure the reception and retail areas are clean, tidy, and presentable
- Monitor appointment schedules and ensure efficient patient flow
- Assist with stock ordering and inventory checks
Skills & Requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service focus
- Good organisational and multitasking abilities
- Basic IT skills (practice management systems, email, MS Office)
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- A friendly, approachable, and professional attitude
Desirable (but not essential)
- Previous experience in an optical, healthcare, or retail environment
- Knowledge of optical products (frames, lenses, contact lenses)
- Cash handling or reception experience
Working Conditions
- May include weekend or evening shifts depending on practice hours
- Will sometimes involve working alone
- Fast-paced, customer-facing environment
- Requires standing for periods when assisting patients
