Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and vigilant Health, Safety and Environmental Officer to join our growing and diverse team.

This is a peripatetic role working between our Reading office, site visits within the South up to the Midlands area (with options for over night stay where needed) and working from home. Therefore, living in any area south of the Midlands would be suitable for travel.

The successful candidate will be responsible for advising and supporting the wider team with health and safety, ensuring compliance with regulations, maintaining SSoW, carrying out HS&E audits and inspections, and supporting incident investigations as part of a wider HSEQ team within our organisation.

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a secure environment protecting people, property and the environment, whilst developing your own CPD in a dynamic and exciting company as it grows and evolves with our people at the forefront.

The HS&E Officer plays a vital role in promoting our safety culture and safeguarding direct and subcontract employees throughout the Alpine Group.

Responsibilities

Monitor and enforce safety protocols across all organisational areas to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments, identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
Documenting incidents, observations, and safety-related activities through detailed report writing for internal records and regulatory compliance.
Lead investigations into accidents or near-misses by performing root cause analysis to determine underlying issues and prevent recurrence.
Develop, review, and update safety procedures, and SSoW ensuring they are communicated effectively to all staff members.
Collaborate with management and staff to promote health and safety awareness programmes and training sessions.
Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports, and corrective actions taken.

Qualifications

Essential: Proven experience (min 3 years) in health and safety role or related field.
Essential: NEBOSH general or NEBOSH Construction.
Essential: CDM knowledge and experience.
Advantageous: Work at height experience and further training will be provided where required.
Advantageous: Certification in first aid, emergency response or occupational health.
Essential: Strong report writing skills with the ability to produce clear, concise documentation.
Essential: Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis effectively to identify systemic issues.
Essential: Excellent organisational skills with attention to detail when conducting inspections or investigations.
Essential: Ability to remain calm under pressure during emergency situations.
Essential: Good communication skills for liaising with team members at all levels of the organisation.
