We are looking for a new Treasurer to join our dedicated team. If you believe in the importance of early years education and have the skills to help us forecast our finances, you might be the person we have been looking for. We are a not for profit charity. We have a very capable manager, team of practitioners, bookkeeper and an energetic volunteer board of trustees. But we need a new Treasurer to complete the picture.
About the role:
- The Treasurer is responsible for managing the financial affairs of the preschool ensuring transparency, accuracy, and compliance with relevant regulations.
- As a key member of the management committee, the Treasurer works closely with the Bookkeeper, Chair, Secretary, and Preschool Manager to oversee budgeting, funding, and reporting.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Prepare regular financial reports for the committee, including profit and loss summaries and cash flow updates.
- Support the preparation of the annual budget and monitor income and expenditure throughout the year.
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and reporting obligations (e.g., Charity Commission, HMRC).
- Liaise with external accountants or auditors for year-end accounts if required.
- Oversee the Bookkeeper to ensure all bills, invoices and wages are paid on time and ensure correct practice and compliance is strictly adhered to.
- Assist with funding applications, grant reporting, and financial elements of fundraising events.
Time commitment:
- Approximately 2–4 hours per month, with slightly more time required during budget preparation and year-end reporting.
Who we’re looking for:
- Experience in bookkeeping, finance, or accounting is ideal, but not essential.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Confident using spreadsheets or basic accounting software.
- Good communicator and team player, able to explain financial information clearly.
- A commitment to the values of early years education and community involvement.
- A clear DBS certificate
