Job Introduction

Job Title: Teaching Assistant Grade 2
Salary: £21,257-£21595 per annum
Hours: 35 (term-time only plus 5 TED)
Location: The Beacon PRU
Permanent
Start Date: September 2026

Are you caring, patient and passionate about supporting children’s emotional wellbeing? Do you want to be part of a team that places therapeutic care and mental health at the heart of learning? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

Our Primary Pupil Referral Unit supports children aged 5-11 who have experienced challenges in mainstream education due to social, emotional or behavioural needs. We believe that every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment where they can heal, grow and learn – and we’re looking for someone who shares that belief.

As a Grade 2 Teaching Assistant, you’ll work alongside teachers and therapeutic staff to support pupils in their learning and emotional development. You’ll help create a calm, structured environment where children feel safe and supported and where their mental health is prioritised.

Key responsibilities:

Support pupils in managing emotions and building positive relationships
Assist with classroom activities and personalised learning plans
Help deliver therapeutic approaches to behaviour and wellbeing
Encourage engagement, resilience and self-confidence
Work closely with staff and families to support each child’s journey

What we’re looking for:

A nurturing and empathetic approach to working with children
Willingness to learn and apply trauma-informed practices
Good communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
Experience in education or care settings (desirable but not essential)
