This fixed-term locum consultant post is intended to support both the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the KIDS Intensive Care and Decision Support (KIDSNTS) retrieval service at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The post is for 10 months to provide maternity cover from August 2026, with the successful candidate dividing their time equally between PICU and KIDSNTS on a 50:50 basis. The role includes the delivery of high-quality paediatric intensive care, retrieval and decision support for critically ill children across the West Midlands network, alongside participation in teaching, quality improvement, governance and service development activities.
The appointee will join the dedicated PICU and KIDSNTS teams at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust to support the delivery of high-quality paediatric intensive care and retrieval services across the West Midlands network. The post holder will be expected to maintain clinical standards and protocols, participate in teaching and supervision of junior medical and nursing staff, contribute to audit, quality improvement and governance activity, and support the ongoing development of both services. The role will involve regular clinical duties across both PICU and KIDSNTS on a 50:50 basis, including daytime, on-call and weekend commitments.

The post holder will also be expected to participate in the activities of relevant Departmental, Directorate and Trust committees and working groups as required.
