The Finance and Operation Officer will be at the heart of ensuring the smooth running of an impactful global advocacy organisation. We’re looking for someone who gets excited about making things happen; has an eye for detail, a head for numbers and heart for human rights.
THE SYRIA CAMPAIGN
The Syria Campaign is a small, fast moving, and powerful human rights organisation that is building new ways for digital and creative communications to have impact. We work to support Syria’s heroes in the struggle for justice, freedom and democracy, partnering with civil society actors inside and outside the country. We’ve moved beyond the limitations of an “online movement builder” or traditional NGO, fusing the best elements of think tanks, creative agencies, and digital mobilisation to create change for Syria.
THE ROLE
We are looking for an organised individual to manage daily finance, operations and campaign logistics, reporting into the Director of Finance and Operations. This role will lead on day-to-day financial management and program operations, and provide support on human resources, organizational management, and event management. This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in administration, finance or campaign operations to influence a small organisation’s efficiency, team culture and campaign impact.
Responsibilities:
Finance (60%)
● Lead day-to-day financial operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable and vendor management
● Manage multi-country payroll processing (US, UK, Germany, France)
● Prepare monthly financial reports and reconciliation
● Support cash management for Syria operations, including coordinating payments with local partners and maintaining transfer reconciliation records
● Coordinate with the accounting team on QuickBooks entries and reconciliation
● Review sub-grantee financial reports and process sub-grant payment requests
● Manage the financial backend of our multiple fundraising platforms
● Support the annual audit process by coordinating logistics, collecting documentations, and liaising with auditors.
● Implement new procedures as needed and improve our suite of operational tools.
● Review QuickBooks entries and general ledger for accuracy, and coordinate with the accounting team on corrections and cost allocation
Campaign and Program Operations (20%)
● Provide procurement and financial operations support for campaigns and programs, including: obtaining competitive quotes from vendors, vendor vetting and contract negotiation, payment processing, and expense reconciliation
Human Resources Support (15%)
● Provide recruitment administration support (posting roles, CV screening, interview scheduling, reference checks), coordinate staff retreat logistics, and manage travel arrangements and reimbursements
● Manage travel arrangements and expense reimbursements
● Contact point for staff on questions related to finance, benefits and logistics
● Support with the onboarding of consultants and staff
● Actively contribute to the development of happy and productive work culture at TSC
Organizational Management and Administration (5%)
● Support Board of Directors logistics (meeting scheduling, document preparation, minutes distribution)
● Maintain organizational filing and knowledge management systems
● Track entity compliance requirements (US, UK, and Germany) and coordinate filing deadlines.
● Track and coordinate entity insurance renewals across all jurisdictions.
● Coordinate platform access and permissions
● Contributing to building a collaborative, supportive and happy team culture
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
● 3-5 years of office experience, with experience in one of the following: non-profit management, accounting, finance, campaign logistics or related areas.
● Proven project manager - extremely detail-oriented, able to manage multiple work streams and meet deadlines with a demonstrated interest in process design and improvement.
● Ability to maintain highly confidential information.
● Ability to work independently and manage multiple work streams with minimal supervision (but lots of support).
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred:
● Multi-country operations experience (US, UK, EU)
● Grant financial administration experience
● Arabic language skills.
● Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of Syria and/or human rights issues.
● Experience in initiating and delivering projects or ideas, either professional or personal.
