About Us
Tru Earthworks is a leading earthworks and civil engineering contractor delivering projects across infrastructure, highways, drainage, remediation, bulk earthworks, and enabling works sectors throughout the UK.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured and upcoming work, we are looking to recruit an experienced Senior Estimator with a strong civils background to join our expanding pre-construction team.
This role can be based from our Head Office in Kesgrave, Suffolk, on a hybrid basis, or remotely for candidates living more than two hours from IP5 2PE.
The Role
As Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for leading tender submissions from enquiry through to contract award, ensuring commercially robust and competitive submissions are delivered on time.
Working closely with the Commercial Director and operational teams, you will play a key role in securing future projects and supporting the continued growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates and tender submissions for civil engineering and earthworks projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and tender documentation.
- Produce accurate quantity take-offs and first-principles pricing.
- Develop detailed cost plans and tender build-ups.
- Assess project risks, opportunities, and value engineering options.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits where required.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Support tender adjudication and submission processes.
- Manage post-tender negotiations and clarifications.
- Ensure successful handover of awarded projects to delivery teams.
- Assist in developing and improving estimating procedures and systems.
Candidate Requirements Essential
- Proven experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator within Civil Engineering.
- Strong understanding of Groundworks, Drainage, Highways, Infrastructure, Earthworks and Utilities.
- Ability to price projects from first principles.
- Experience interpreting drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience working for a principal contractor.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts.
- HNC, HND or Degree qualification in a construction-related discipline.
- Experience pricing projects from £1m to £20m+.

Working Pattern
- Monday to Friday
- Full-time permanent position
- Remote working considered for candidates located more than two hours from our Head Office (IP5 2PE)
- Occasional travel to sites and Head Office meetings required
Experience:
- Civil Engineering Estimating: 5 years (preferred)
- Earthworks Estimating: 3 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Full UK Driving Licence (required)
