Pipefitter Advanced
Position Summary
The Pipefitter Advanced fabricates, installs, inspects, and maintains safety critical pipework components. This position works on pressure pipework and related installations in a range of industrial environments, ensuring compliance with all safety, technical, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Read and interpret general arrangement and isometric drawings to determine work requirements.
Fabricate pipework in workshop and site settings for both large and small bore pipes and superheater headers.
Replace and install valves, including flange and butt welded joints.
Carry out marking out and shape pipework components by using hand tools and approved methods.
Prepare work area, materials, and equipment before starting engineering activities, ensuring safety procedures are in place.
Install, position, and secure pipework and associated equipment and components in line with specifications.
Check pipework installations in sequence using approved methods, identifying defects or variations, and taking corrective action.
Test performance and condition of installed pipework using approved procedures, recording and reviewing results, and taking required actions.
Reinstate equipment and work area to a safe condition, storing reusable items and disposing of waste appropriately.
Work in accordance with permits, risk assessments, and all safe systems of work and health/safety procedures.
Support continual improvement by identifying, reporting, and mitigating issues and defects.
Guide and support pipefitter trainees in developing technical skills.
Maintain quality of work to meet contract and specification requirements.
Provide clear and timely communication to supervisors, chargehands, section engineers, customers, sub-contractors, and regulators as required.
Reporting Structure
Reports to Site Pipefitting Supervisor and Site Manager.
Technical authority oversight by a designated technical manager.
No direct reports but may guide trainees when required.
Communication Scope
Communicate regularly with supervisors, section engineers, and chargehands.
Interface with external customers, sub-contractors, and regulatory bodies.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
General high school education.
Completed apprenticeship or equivalent vocational qualification (NVQ 3 or Ace Card) in pipefitting.
Valid safety training passports, such as CCNSG, as required.
At least two years of experience in fabricating and installing small and large bore pressure pipework, superheater headers, and vessels.
Experience with the requirements of oil and gas, petrochemical, thermal, or nuclear sectors beneficial.
Understanding and application of human performance principles.
