Project Manager – Sustainable Upland Collaboration Project

Location: Rhug Estate and surrounding upland project areas, Berwyn Moorland

Contract: Fixed term (July 2026 – September 2028)

Hours: Part-time – 3 days per week (approximately 21 hours per week)

Salary: £23.44 per hour

Start Date: Successful candidates should be available to commence employment as soon as possible to support project delivery from 1 July 2026.

About the Role

Rhug Charitable Trust is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Project Manager to lead the Sustainable Upland Collaboration Project, funded through the Integrated Natural Resources Scheme (INRS).

The Project Manager will take overall responsibility for the delivery, compliance and governance of the project, ensuring that all objectives are achieved within agreed timelines and budgets. The role will involve working closely with landowners, farmers, conservation organisations, contractors and regulatory bodies to deliver a collaborative landscape-scale approach to habitat restoration, biodiversity recovery and sustainable land management across the Berwyn Moorland.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an ambitious conservation project, supporting long-term environmental resilience whilst promoting partnership working, knowledge transfer and sustainable upland management.

Key Responsibilities

· Lead and manage the overall delivery of the project, ensuring objectives, milestones, and outcomes are achieved on time and within budget.

· Coordinate and communicate with landowners, farmers, conservation organisations, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

· Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, best practices, and INRS funding requirements.

· Monitor project progress, report on key performance indicators, and make adjustments to project delivery where required.

· Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources, including obtaining quotations through competitive tendering processes and ensuring procurement requirements are met.

· Facilitate knowledge transfer and learning through workshops, training events and stakeholder engagement activities.

· Prepare reports and provide updates to Welsh Government Officials and project partners.

· Promote and support the use of the Welsh language in project delivery, engagement and communications where appropriate.

· Support partnership working to maintain collaboration, accountability and shared project outcomes.

Essential Experience and Skills

· Proven experience in project management, leadership, or other coordination roles, ideally within environmental, agricultural, land management or conservation sectors.

· Strong budget management, procurement and financial reporting skills.

· Experience of stakeholder engagement, particularly with landowners, farmers, conservation organisations and regulatory bodies.

· Excellent organisational, monitoring, evaluation and reporting skills.

· Ability to support and promote the Welsh language in project activities and communications.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office or equivalent digital systems.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

· Full UK driving license and access to transport suitable for travelling within the project area.

Desirable:

· Knowledge of ecological surveys, habitat management, or biodiversity monitoring.

· Experience of GIS or environmental management data systems.

· Understanding of protected landscapes and environmental designations such as SSSI, SAC and SPA sites.

· Experience of delivering publicly funded projects.
