Ascott Estate is a 4,400-acre rural country Estate centred in Wing, Buckinghamshire. The gardens, which date back to the late 19th century and extend to over 250 acres, are open to the public between March and September and are a popular attraction with over 50,000 visitors enjoying the magnificent Gardens. The grounds are extensively planted with a mixture of native and non-native specimens and parkland trees.

The role
Working closely within the gardening team you will be maintaining the gardens and cricket ground predominately at Ascott Park, as well as other areas of the Estate. You will be tasked with a large number of gardening and maintenance jobs from maintaining the vast array of shrubs and plants we have in the gardens to mowing the extensive lawns. You will assist in the preparation of the cricket pitch ensuring it is maintained to a high standard for the teams who use it- training for this will be provided.
You will be working a 39-hour working week with an early finish on Fridays. Start and finish times will vary throughout the year depending on the season and you will be required to work weekends throughout the summer months on a rota basis. It is also important to note you will be required to work in all weathers.
About you
This is a unique opportunity and not your average Gardener/ Groundsperson role. It requires someone who is interested in developing their knowledge. This will suit someone who is knowledgeable and passionate about grounds and gardening and if you have worked on a large estate or public gardens this will be desirable but not essential.
Ascott Estate recognise that good health and safety practice is vital. Desirable qualifications required:
- PA1 and PA6.
- RHS Level 2 or equivalent.
- Knowledge of plant husbandry and horticultural technique.
It is also important that you are confident to drive tractors and pedestrian mowers and have a good understanding of safe working practices in a work setting or garden environment.
To have a willingness to learn and develop new skills in Ascott gardens unusual blend of formal and natural gardens.
