About Us

RISE Alternative Provision is a nurturing and inclusive setting committed to supporting young people who require additional intervention to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. We pride ourselves on providing a safe, supportive, and personalised learning environment that enables every learner to succeed.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Assistant Student Welfare Officer who will also serve as an Administrative Assistant supporting DDSL responsibilities. This role works closely alongside the lead Student Welfare Officer and Senior Leadership Team, assisting with student wellbeing, safeguarding processes, and administrative functions across the provision.

Key Responsibilities

Safeguarding & Welfare

Support the Student Welfare Officer and Safeguarding Team in day-to-day safeguarding duties
Assist in responding to safeguarding concerns in line with statutory guidance and RISE policies
Help liaise with external agencies, parents/carers, and social services as directed
Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential safeguarding and welfare records
Promote a safe and supportive culture across the provision

Student Induction

Attend pupil induction meetings alongside the Student Welfare Officer and wider team
Support the planning and coordination of induction programmes for new pupils
Lead or co-deliver pupil inductions to ensure students feel safe, informed, and welcomed
Gather and record key information about pupils at induction to support effective provision planning
Liaise with families and referring schools/agencies as part of the induction process

Mentoring

Plan and deliver bespoke 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions tailored to individual student needs
Develop mentoring plans aligned to EHCPs, behaviour support strategies, and pastoral needs
Build positive, professional relationships that promote trust, engagement, and emotional wellbeing
Monitor and review student progress within mentoring, adapting approaches as required
Record and report on mentoring outcomes, contributing to wider student review processes
Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the Student Welfare Officer to ensure consistency of support

Attendance

Support monitoring of attendance, punctuality, and engagement
Assist with daily attendance checks and follow-up actions
Help prepare attendance data when required
Work alongside families and external partners to support improved student attendance

Administration

Assist in writing and updating risk assessments for students, environments, and activities
Support preparation and organisation of EHCP paperwork, supporting evidence, and annual review reports
Provide administrative support to the Senior Leadership Team, including meeting preparation and data management
Assist with wider office operations to ensure smooth daily running of the provision
Carry out general administrative duties, including filing, correspondence, and maintaining accurate records
Review weekly student reports, supporting the identification of key themes, and assist in setting and assigning appropriate student targets in collaboration with the Student Welfare Officer and teaching staff

Additional Duties

Responsibilities may develop in line with the needs of RISE Alternative Provision
Undertake other reasonably directed duties from senior staff to support organisational priorities

Person SpecificationEssential

Experience working with vulnerable young people or within an education, pastoral, or welfare setting
Basic understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and safer recruitment processes (or willingness to develop knowledge)
Strong organisational, communication, and record-keeping skills
Ability to manage sensitive information confidentially and professionally
Competent IT skills, including data entry and report support
Ability to plan and deliver supportive mentoring or pastoral interventions
A supportive, calm, and team-focused approach, with willingness to learn

Desirable

Experience in an alternative provision, SEND, or pastoral support role
Experience delivering mentoring or intervention programmes
Familiarity with safeguarding systems or record-keeping processes
Interest in progressing toward DSL/DDSL training
Awareness of EHCP processes, risk assessments, and multi-agency working
