Purpose of the Role
The Assistant Management Accountant supports the finance team in delivering accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis. This role is key in helping the business understand its financial performance and make informed decisions.
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Management accounts - Prepare and support monthly close process
Budgeting & forecasting - Support planning cycles and financial modelling
Variance analysis - Analyse actuals vs budget and explain movements
Journals & adjustments - Post accruals, prepayments, and correcting entries
Balance sheet reconciliation - Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies
Cost & profitability analysis - Assist with cost reviews and margin reporting
Records & systems maintenance - Keep financial data accurate and up to date
Compliance & internal controls - Adhere to financial procedures and control frameworks
Audit support - Assist auditors and prepare supporting schedules
Outputs/Deliverables
Monthly management accounts pack - P&L, balance sheet, and commentary for senior management
Budget & forecast models - Updated schedules and reforecast submissions
Variance reports - Budget vs actual analysis with narrative explanations
Posted journal entries - Accruals, prepayments, and period-end adjustments
Reconciliation schedules - Signed-off balance sheet recs with discrepancy notes
Cost & profitability reports - Margin analysis and cost centre reporting
Maintained financial records - Accurate, up-to-date entries across all systems
Controls evidence & compliance log - Documentation demonstrating adherence to procedures
Audit support files - Working papers and evidence packs for auditors
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in a finance or accounting role (preferred)
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Visaul or other ERP systems) is advantageous

Technical Skills and Qualifications
Essential
- Part-qualified accountant (e.g., AAT) or working towards qualification

- Good understanding of accounting principles
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills for presenting financial information
