Full job description

Due to the continued growth and expansion of Meadows School, we are seeking to appoint multiple Special Education Teachers.

About the role

Meadows School is seeking outstanding, compassionate and resilient Special Education Teachers to work with pupils with high levels of need who are working academically at Entry Level. These roles are suited to practitioners who understand that progress for some pupils begins with relationships, regulation, communication, confidence and engagement before academic success can flourish.

The successful candidates will deliver an enriching, highly personalised curriculum within a therapeutic and relational environment. Pupils may present with a range of needs including SEMH, autism, ADHD, communication difficulties, trauma-related needs and barriers to learning linked to disrupted educational experiences.

We welcome applications from both primary and secondary trained teachers who are passionate about inclusive education and committed to helping pupils succeed through therapeutic, relational and highly engaging practice.

Delivering functional and practical learning experiences linked to real life

Creating opportunities for enrichment, creativity and community participation
Using therapeutic and relational approaches to support engagement and behaviour
Preparing pupils for adulthood, independence and future destinations

Key responsibilities

Plan and deliver a differentiated curriculum for pupils working at Entry Level and below.
Use knowledge of the National Curriculum, Entry Level pathways and relevant assessment criteria to plan appropriately sequenced learning and evidence pupil progress.
Create a calm, structured and therapeutic classroom environment where pupils feel safe and supported.
Adapt teaching approaches to meet a wide range of SEND and SEMH needs.
Deliver engaging learning experiences that combine academic learning with life skills, personal development and enrichment.
Use relational and trauma-informed approaches to support behaviour, attendance and engagement.
Support pupils to develop communication, independence, self-regulation and social skills.
Work closely with pastoral teams, therapists, families and external agencies to ensure a joined-up approach around each pupil.
Monitor and celebrate small-step progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and pupil reports.
Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, equality and inclusion at all times.
Contribute positively to the wider development and growth of Meadows School.

We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working with pupils with SEND, SEMH or complex additional needs.
Understands how to adapt curriculum and teaching for pupils working significantly below age-related expectations.
Has secure knowledge of the National Curriculum and the ability to teach, assess and evidence learning against clear assessment criteria.
Can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education.
Is nurturing, resilient, reflective and solution-focused.
Has high expectations for every pupil, regardless of starting point.
Can deliver learning creatively through practical, therapeutic and enriching experiences.
Works well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Is committed to inclusive practice and continuous professional development.

Desirable

Experience in a special school, alternative provision or therapeutic setting.
Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, autism education or communication approaches.
Experience delivering Entry Level, functional skills or personalised curricula.
Experience using assessment frameworks, small-step progression models or exam board criteria to support pupils working at Entry Level.
Training in Team Teach, Thrive, nurture, restorative or therapeutic approaches.
