We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised, and hands-on Retail Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our retail shop, support and develop our team, and help drive the continued growth of the business. This is an exciting new chapter at Cissy Green’s. Extensive investment has been made to the town centre, and we are in the process of redesigning and refitting our Haslingden store, with a real focus on customer experience.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys leading people, improving standards, building customer relationships, and bringing fresh ideas to increase sales and footfall. You will play a key role in shaping the customer experience at Cissy Green’s whilst also helping us grow our wholesale customer base and local presence.
The Cissy Green’s bakery team is managed separately, however this role will work closely alongside this team to help ensure smooth communication, teamwork, and the consistent delivery of high-quality products to our customers.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Retail Shop Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the retail bakery shop, ensuring high standards are maintained across customer service, cleanliness, food safety, and overall shop operations.
- Lead by example as a hands-on and visible presence within the business.
- Ensure the shop operates efficiently and professionally at all times.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate ordering with suppliers as required.
- Manage supplier relationships and oversee invoice processing and payments.
- Identify opportunities to improve shop processes, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are followed consistently.
Team Leadership & Staff Development:
- Manage, support, and motivate a team of approximately 8 staff members.
- Create a positive, friendly, and professional working environment.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and staff training.
- Conduct regular staff check-ins and performance reviews.
- Help develop team confidence, accountability, and customer service skills.
- Manage staff rotas, support day-to-day staffing requirements, and managing staff annual leave.
Customer Experience:
- Ensure excellent customer service standards are consistently delivered.
- Handle customer feedback, enquiries, and complaints professionally and promptly.
- Build strong relationships with regular customers and help strengthen Cissy Green’s presence within the local community.
- Look for opportunities to improve customer experience and encourage repeat business.
Sales, Marketing and Business Growth:
- Take a lead role in increasing shop sales and customer footfall.
- Manage social media activity, promotions, and local marketing campaigns.
- Develop ideas for seasonal offers, partnerships, events, and in-store promotions.
- Identify and approach potential new wholesale customers including cafés, shops, and local businesses.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with existing wholesale customers.
- Monitor sales performance and contribute ideas to support business growth.
Food Hygiene, Health & Safety:
- Ensure the shop operates in line with UK food hygiene, allergen awareness, and health & safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records relating to food safety and staff training.
- Carry out regular checks to ensure a clean, safe, and organised working environment.
- Support staff training in food hygiene and safe working practices.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and relevant legislation.
What You’ll Bring:
Experience & Qualifications:
- At least 3 years management experience within retail, hospitality, food service, catering, or a similar customer-facing environment.
- Extensive experience working in food service businesses.
- Experience line managing and motivating teams .
- Experience in leading change management.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety standards.
- Experience in customer service and sales-focused environments.
- Confidence using technology, social media, and basic business software.
Skills & Qualities:
- Minimum of Level 3 in Food Hygiene (or equivalent).
- Friendly, approachable, and professional.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Organised and proactive with good attention to detail.
- Commercially aware and motivated to help grow the business.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to multitask and remain calm under pressure.

Where You’ll Be:
- The role is based in our retail shop in Haslingden.
- Core opening hours for the shop are Monday - Saturday, 8am–4pm.
- This role will be full time, across 5 days (including regular Saturday working).
- This is a hands-on role within a busy bakery environment and will involve being actively present on the shop floor.
