The Early Years Teacher Lead role is key in delivering and championing high quality, beyond brilliant early years education, acknowledging every child is unique through our bespoke educational programmes. You will foster strong meaningful relationships with children, parents and colleagues using consistent and effective communication. About you
- Holds Early Years Teacher Status and has at least one years’ experience in early years
- You must be able to build meaningful relationships with all stakeholders, children, parents and team, and have good communication skills and maintain confidentiality
- A real ‘can do’ attitude and self-motivation is essential – we need our team to love working together!
- Having a passion for working in an environment with young children is essential
- You must be eligible to work in the UK and obtain a satisfactory DBS
- Be willing and able to travel to other nursery settings in Essex/ Hertfordshire to network, share great practice and teaching and support professional development
About the role
This exciting role offers the opportunity to build a fun and rewarding career in the Early Years, working directly with the preschool children at one of our Beyond Brilliant nursery schools in Chelmsford .
You will use your knowledge and experience to work alongside colleagues and the Nursery Management team to provide inspirational education and enriching environments where children can learn, grow, and play. Together, in collaboration with homebase colleagues, you will lead all aspects of the School & Beyond programme and provision, ensuring that the needs of children, parents and team are addressed professionally and in line with the organisation’s procedures and values.

This is a flexible and diverse role that covers all aspects of working within an Early Years setting, key responsibilities include;
Delivering Beyond Brilliant Care and Education
- Implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage through our bespoke School & Beyond Programme as part of our 5Cs curriculum. Oversee the delivery of all elements of the programme including the Reading & Writing Programme, Dragon Maths, Go Green, PE Sessions, Choose a Challenge, Safety Detectives and Special Helpers. Collaborating with and coordinating team so all contribute with consistent delivery
- Having high regards for all matters relating to safeguarding children and child protection, keeping up to date with the organisations safeguarding policies and procedures, participate in training, reporting any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and promoting a safety-first culture daily
- Promoting every child’s sense of belonging supporting diversity, inclusion and equal opportunities for all so every child has the opportunity to meet their full potential
- Leading the homebase team to consistently deliver high quality, joyful teaching and learning tailored to the children’s individual needs, with a positive impact on children’s outcomes. Be a role model of exceptional early years practice, through fun and exciting age/ stage appropriate experiences, a team member who could be relied upon every day and for joint observation at inspection demonstrating practice aligned with our policies, procedures, vision and values
- Collect, review and action cohort data, using Progress Analysis, to ensure all children are making good progress, building on 5Cs skills effectively
- Supporting children to have the best start in life, encouraging healthy habits by delivering our fresh, tasty, wholesome meals and regular food education
- Ensuring the environment is inspiring and promotes a love of learning, with high quality, safe and purposeful resources in a clean, tidy space that meets professional standards. Takes a lead in developing and reviewing core provision to effectively deliver our curriculum
- Taking responsibility for own safety and that of others, adhering to the organisations health and safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe nursery environment
- Managing effective and timely record keeping, including children’s developmental observations and assessments and homebase accident, first aid, medicine administration records and cleaning logs, etc
- Overseeing observation, assessment and planning through quality monitoring, and ensuring high quality school leavers reports across the team. Lead the completion of EYFS profiles for any children deferring school
- Collaborating with the Nursery Management Team to address areas of non-conformance identified through audit, working with colleagues to implement actions that improve practice and provision
- Having vision to drive quality in practice and provision. Working on research-based projects with the Head of Early Years Practice, to enhance the care and education across the organisation
- Is open to and puts forward new ideas and ways of working that positively impact children, parents, and team.
Nurturing Partnerships
- Supporting a nurturing environment, demonstrating empathy, warmth and kindness towards others. Role mode high standards of conduct and teamwork, communicating policy, procedure and values effectively
- Forming strong bonds with children, tailoring care and learning to their individual needs and interests. Organising Key Person groups for the homebase and being a brilliant Key Person
- Communicating consistently and effectively with colleagues, parents and other professionals, always representing the organisation positively
- Building supportive parent partnerships using in the moment planning and meaningful record keeping so that all parents are engaged in their child’s learning and promote home learning ideas and experiences
- Delivering and overseeing high quality handovers at the end of the day to parent/carer so they are informed of their child’s enjoyment, educational experiences and care routines for the day
- Leading parent partnership discussions for key children in person or remotely with confidence, sharing expertise, knowledge and details of children’s progress and next steps clearly and professionally. Support colleagues in the organisation and delivering of their discussions so a high standard across the homebase
- Analysing homebase feedback from parents, identifying trends and implementing improvements to ensure high levels of family satisfaction to uphold the nursery’s excellent reputation
- Establishing and maintaining positive, professional working relationships with all colleagues, collaborating together to nurture each other, our community and planet, and implement a safe, clean and tidy environment for all to thrive
- Attending local early years network and transition events, maintaining strong links with local feeder schools and external professionals
- Demonstrating a teamwork approach to coordinating parent events such as Stay & Play sessions, Leavers Tea, parent drop ins etc. Leading the delivery of School & Beyond parent workshops, ensuring families are engaged with and informed about our curriculum and approach
- Contributing to showcasing the School & Beyond Programme through platforms such as Better Together publications, social media channels and through inspection
Learning and Development
- Taking ownership for own CPD and personalised skill development by being reflective and identifying training needs. Can self-identify what’s working well and the even better ifs.
- Keeping knowledge and skills fresh and sharing new knowledge and current early years thinking with the management team and colleagues. Engaging fully by attending training and CPD opportunities that are offered
- Being proactive in contributing new ideas and innovative ways of working that positively impact children, parents and team. Sharing practice and new ideas with others through our Community platform
- Coaching, mentoring and supporting homebase colleagues and wider team in their CPD so every child and family receives a beyond brilliant experience
- Co-lead homebase supervisions, contributing to team development, wellbeing and the nursery vision
- Lead or contribute to 1-1 and group training sessions, such as Reflective Practice Themed Learning or whole company Best Practice Workshops
- Effectively induct new team members and mentor colleagues undertaking the EYITT programme to meet course requirements, supporting with observations, feedback and liaising with their external mentor
- Inspire and motive colleagues, supporting with skill development and CPD, providing regular peer observation and in the moment feedback
- Manage planned supernumerary time effectively to benefit the nursery
