About Gabha Pharmacy
Gabha Pharmacy is an ambitious, forward-thinking independent community pharmacy committed to delivering exceptional patient care while continually expanding our NHS and private clinical services.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and highly organised individual to take ownership of the day-to-day operational management of the pharmacy.
This is not a standard dispenser role. We are looking for someone who wants to build a long-term career, take responsibility, lead a team and become a key part of a growing independent pharmacy.
Working closely with the Pharmacy Owner and Superintendent Pharmacist, you will oversee the smooth running of the pharmacy while maintaining the highest professional standards and helping drive the future growth of the business.
The Role
This is a senior operational role requiring someone who can confidently manage the day-to-day running of the pharmacy with minimal supervision.
You will be responsible for ensuring the pharmacy operates efficiently, safely and compliantly whilst helping to improve workflow, patient experience, NHS service delivery and prescription growth.
Key ResponsibilitiesPharmacy Operations
- Manage the day-to-day running of the dispensary.
- Lead, supervise and support dispensers, technicians and counter staff.
- Prepare and manage staff rotas.
- Manage annual leave and staff absences.
- Allocate daily workloads.
- Ensure smooth workflow throughout the pharmacy.
- Maintain high standards of customer service.
- Support the Pharmacy Owner in improving operational efficiency.
Dispensing & Clinical Services
- Dispense NHS and private prescriptions accurately.
- Accuracy check prescriptions (ACT qualification preferred).
- Manage monitored dosage systems (dosette trays).
- Resolve prescription queries with GP surgeries, hospitals and patients.
- Maintain Controlled Drug procedures.
- Assist pharmacists in delivering high-quality patient care.
- Support safe and effective dispensing at all times.
NHS Services & Pharmacy Development
- Oversee all NHS pharmacy services.
- Keep the pharmacy updated with NHS England, Community Pharmacy England, ICB and GPhC guidance.
- Implement new NHS services and contractual changes.
- Monitor Pharmacy First, New Medicine Service (NMS), Hypertension Case Finding, Contraception Service and any future NHS services.
- Ensure all NHS claims are submitted accurately and on time.
- Monitor service performance and identify opportunities for growth.
- Help increase prescription nominations and NHS activity.
Governance & Compliance
- Maintain and regularly review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure the pharmacy remains inspection-ready at all times.
- Complete audits, risk assessments and action plans.
- Review near misses and significant events.
- Maintain staff training records.
- Ensure compliance with GPhC standards and NHS contractual requirements.
- Keep the team informed of regulatory and professional updates.
Stock & Purchasing
- Manage stock ordering and inventory.
- Maintain optimum stock levels whilst reducing wastage.
- Investigate supplier shortages.
- Check supplier invoices.
- Resolve missing invoices and credit notes.
- Monitor stock discrepancies.
- Improve stock control systems.
Finance & Administration
- Complete daily banking.
- Carry out cash reconciliation.
- Assist with VAT tallying.
- Monitor supplier statements.
- Check invoices and investigate discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Support month-end administration.
Business Development
- Develop strong relationships with local GP surgeries.
- Help increase prescription item numbers.
- Increase EPS nominations.
- Promote NHS and private pharmacy services.
- Help identify opportunities to grow the business.
- Support marketing initiatives within the local community.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, train and mentor staff.
- Supervise work experience students and trainees.
- Conduct staff training.
- Assist with performance reviews.
- Encourage continuous improvement.
- Create a positive and supportive working environment.
Essential Requirements
- Significant experience working within a UK community pharmacy.
- Excellent understanding of NHS pharmacy services.
- Strong organisational and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience managing staff, stock and pharmacy operations.
- Good IT skills and experience using pharmacy PMR systems.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
Desirable
- GPhC Registered Pharmacy Technician.
- Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) qualification.
- Previous experience managing a busy community pharmacy.
- Experience increasing prescription numbers.
- Experience implementing NHS services.
- Knowledge of pharmacy finance and operational reporting.
