Michael Wilson & Son is an established building, roofing and access contractor based in Brighouse, West Yorkshire. Founded in 1979, we work with schools, local authorities, government organisations and commercial clients across the UK.
Our access hire division is an important and growing part of the business. We operate our own fleet of truck-mounted cherry pickers reaching up to 51 metres, alongside other specialist access equipment.
Our access services support a wide range of sectors, including:
- Telecommunications
- Signage installation and maintenance
- Roofing and building works
- Utilities and infrastructure
- Window and specialist cleaning
- Surveys and inspections
- Commercial and public-sector projects
We continue to invest in new equipment and are looking for an experienced operator who wants to become part of a growing, hard-working team.

The role
This is a hands-on and varied position. Your responsibilities will include:
- Driving and operating truck-mounted access platforms up to 51 metres
- Carrying out pre-use inspections and basic daily checks
- Setting up and operating access equipment safely
- Assessing site conditions before deploying the machine
- Supporting customers with safe and efficient access
- Following site-specific risk assessments and method statements
- Completing relevant job sheets and equipment records
- Communicating professionally with customers and site teams
- Keeping the vehicle and equipment clean and presentable
- Reporting faults, damage or safety concerns promptly
- Working alongside our contracts and scheduling teams
- Representing the company professionally while on site
Working hours and travel
Our access division operates across a seven-day period, so flexibility is essential. The role will involve:
- Early morning starts
- Daytime, evening and night work
- Weekend working
- Travelling throughout the North of England
- Occasional longer-distance work
- Staying away from home when required
Working hours will vary depending on customer requirements and the location of each job.
Essential requirements
Applicants must have:
- A valid HGV driving licence
- A current IPAF 1B qualification
- A valid CSCS card
- Experience operating truck-mounted access platforms
- No more than six points on their driving licence
- A good understanding of working safely at height
- Confidence working independently and making sensible on-site decisions
- A willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check due to work at schools and public-sector sites
Preferred qualifications and experience
The following would be beneficial:
- First Aid qualification
- Experience operating larger truck-mounted platforms
- Experience working within telecoms, signage, roofing or utilities
- Knowledge of vehicle and access-platform safety checks
- Experience working on commercial and public-sector sites
