Working as part of the Waste Collection Team based at Hellaby Depot, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality waste and recycling services across the Borough. The role involves the safe and efficient collection of household and commercial waste and recyclables while supervising the waste management operatives assigned to your vehicle. This is a front‑line, physically demanding role that requires a strong commitment to health and safety, teamwork, and excellent customer service.
You will be responsible for driving and operating a waste collection vehicle and must complete all pre‑ and post‑use safety vehicle checks. You will supervise and direct the work of the waste management operatives on the vehicle, ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times in line with health and safety requirements and Council policies. When required, you will also cover a loader position, undertaking loading duties to support service continuity and operational delivery.

You will need to communicate effectively with customers and colleagues and demonstrate a high standard of customer care at all times, representing the Council positively while delivering front‑line services.
You must hold a Category C2 Driving Licence and be physically capable of walking between eight and ten miles per day. This role involves lifting, pushing, and pulling bins of various sizes over different distances and gradients and working outdoors in all weather conditions. Flexibility is essential, as you may be required to support other Council services as and when requested to meet service delivery needs.
The ideal candidate will be a reliable and flexible team player with a good understanding of health and safety requirements in the workplace. Experience of working in a waste collection environment is desirable, particularly kerbside waste and recycling collections, as is experience of supervising staff within an operational role.
