Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Second Climber/Groundsman to join our team in maintaining and enhancing landscape and construction sites. This role involves working at height as well as ground-based tasks, supporting the primary climber in various horticultural, landscaping, and maintenance activities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and experience with a range of tools and machinery. Duties
- Assist the primary climber in pruning, trimming, and shaping trees and shrubs at height using appropriate climbing techniques and safety equipment
- Support ground-based tasks such as planting, lawn care, irrigation installation, and general landscape maintenance
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment including excavators and irrigation systems to carry out various landscaping projects
- Conduct routine maintenance on tools and machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety standards are met
- Assist with site preparation, including digging, trenching, and material handling using mechanical equipment such as excavators
- Maintain safety protocols at all times when working at height or around heavy machinery
- Support team members in construction activities related to landscape projects or infrastructure improvements
- Ensure work areas are kept tidy and secure following completion of tasks
Requirements
- Prior experience in landscape maintenance, gardening, horticulture or construction is highly desirable
- Mechanical knowledge relevant to operating power tools, excavators, and irrigation systems
- Familiarity with hand tools and power tools used in outdoor maintenance and construction environments
- Ability to work safely at heights using climbing gear and harnesses
- Good physical fitness with the ability to lift heavy loads and perform manual labour for extended periods
- Strong organisational skills with an eye for detail in maintaining equipment and work sites
- Ability to follow instructions carefully whilst working independently or as part of a team
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in horticulture, landscaping or construction are advantageous but not essential
