Reports To

Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager

Job Purpose

To lead and inspire high-quality teaching and learning across the nursery curriculum, ensuring all children receive outstanding early years education and care in line with the EYFS framework. The EYT Curriculum Leader will support staff development, oversee planning and assessment, and promote a nurturing, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment for babies and young children.

Key Responsibilities Curriculum Leadership

Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the nursery curriculum in line with the EYFS framework.
Ensure learning experiences are engaging, developmentally appropriate, and tailored to individual children’s needs and interests.
Monitor and support high standards of teaching and learning across all nursery rooms.
Develop creative learning opportunities that promote communication, language, physical development, and emotional wellbeing.
Support staff in delivering high-quality observations, assessments, and next steps for children’s learning.

Teaching & Learning

Act as a role model for outstanding early years practice.
Deliver high-quality interactions that extend children’s learning and development.
Support school readiness through a balance of adult-led and child-initiated learning.
Ensure inclusive practice for children with SEND, EAL, or additional needs.

Staff Support & Development

Mentor and coach nursery practitioners and room leaders.
Lead curriculum meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Support staff understanding of safeguarding, child development, and EYFS requirements.
Promote reflective practice and continuous improvement throughout the nursery.

Child Development & Assessment

Monitor children’s progress and ensure assessments are accurate and meaningful.
Support the completion of progress checks, learning journals, and transition reports.
Identify gaps in learning and work with staff and families to provide targeted support.

Partnerships with Parents

Build strong relationships with parents and carers.
Share information about children’s learning and development effectively.
Promote parental involvement in nursery life and learning opportunities.

Safeguarding & Compliance

Ensure safeguarding and welfare requirements are consistently met.
Maintain confidentiality and follow nursery policies and procedures at all times.
Support preparation for Ofsted inspections and quality assurance processes.
Promote health, safety, and wellbeing within the nursery environment.

Person Specification Essential Qualifications & Experience

Early Years Teacher Status (EYT) or equivalent early years qualification.
Previous experience working within an early years setting.
Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and child development.
Experience supporting curriculum planning and assessment.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Desirable

Experience leading or mentoring staff.
Safeguarding training.
SEND knowledge or experience.
Understanding of Ofsted requirements and inspection processes.
