Forte Engineering is a specialist rail engineering consultancy and principal contractor delivering electrical, mechanical, telecoms and civil engineering solutions across the UK rail infrastructure. We work with Network Rail, HS1, Transport for Wales, train operating companies and major principal contractors, delivering projects safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Project Manager to support the successful delivery of rail infrastructure projects across the UK. Based in our East Kilbride office with travel throughout the UK required as required by projects.
Role Overview
The Assistant Project Manager will support Project Managers in the planning, coordination and delivery of multiple rail engineering projects from award through to completion. The role will involve assisting with programme management, commercial awareness, client liaison, procurement, subcontractor coordination and project reporting, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
This position is ideal for someone looking to develop a long-term career in project management within the rail industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day management of rail engineering projects.
- Assist in planning and coordinating labour, materials, plant and subcontractors.
- Monitor project programmes and progress against key milestones.
- Prepare weekly and monthly project reports, cost forecasts and progress updates.
- Support procurement activities, including material and subcontractor enquiries.
- Attend client meetings, site meetings and progress reviews.
- Assist with the preparation and management of project documentation, including programmes, RAMS, ITPs and handover documentation.
- Monitor project risks, opportunities and change control processes.
- Support commercial activities, including applications for payment, compensation events, variations and subcontract management.
- Liaise with engineering, commercial and construction teams to ensure effective project delivery.
- Promote a strong health, safety, quality and environmental culture across all projects.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, suppliers and project stakeholders
Essential Requirements
- HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Previous experience in a project coordination, engineering or assistant project management role.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and attention to detail.
- Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Project.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across the UK.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience within the UK rail industry.
- Knowledge of Network Rail standards and project delivery processes (PACE/GRIP).
- Understanding of NEC contracts and compensation events.
- Experience supporting M&E, telecoms or civil engineering projects.
- PTS, SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely certification.
- Working towards APM, PRINCE2 or similar project management qualification.

Pay: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
