Hours: 18.5 or 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 4.00pm, with a 30-minute lunch break)

Royston Town Council is seeking a Finance Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with finance and bookkeeping experience to play a key role in supporting the Council's financial operations and ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely financial information.

About the Role
Reporting to the Town Clerk, you will contribute to the day-to-day management of the Council's finances, helping to maintain robust financial controls and supporting the production of management and statutory financial information.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily financial transactions using Sage 50 Accounts and Sage Payroll.
- Maintaining sales and purchase ledgers, raising invoices and supporting credit control activities.
- Processing banking transactions and preparing monthly bank reconciliations.
- Producing income and expenditure reports, trial balances and management reports.
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
- Assisting with payroll administration, including timesheet collation and payroll processing.
- Supporting budget preparation, internal audits and year-end processes.
- Responding to general council enquiries and providing excellent customer service.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience in a finance, accounts or bookkeeping role.
- Has a sound understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
- Is experienced in using financial systems, ideally Sage 50 Accounts and Sage Payroll.
- Has excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Possesses strong organisational and time management skills.
- Is a positive team player with a proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Has good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with colleagues, councillors and members of the public.
