Full job description

Sample recording and preparation including contamination preventive measures Undertake analytical work on a whole range of sample types including law enforcement which may result in legal proceedings and within designated time scales.

Job Title: Trainee Analyst – Food & Agriculture Laboratory
Department: Analytical Services Division – Food & Agriculture Laboratory
Salary: Dependent on experience
Position: Permanent (M – F, 37½ hrs/week)
Location: Cardiff

The Minton Treharne Davies Group (MTD) of companies provide scientific consultancy, surveying, testing and training services to a worldwide client base from offices and laboratories in the United Kingdom, Europe, USA, Singapore and Australia. We deliver independent scientific & technical services to UK clients from our Welsh laboratory situated at Forest Farm Industrial Estate, Longwood Drive, Whitchurch, Cardiff, CF14 7HY.

WHAT IS THE POST THAT ARE WE OFFERING?

We are offering the right candidate, the opportunity to become part of our Laboratory Analyst Trainee programme in a thriving food and agriculture division. As part of the programme, you will receive certification for the various aspects of on-the-job learning/training over a three year period.

The trainee programme will gain you first-hand experience and knowledge in the following:

Wet chemistry skills including use of analytical precision balances, titrations & gravimetry.
Use of a Laboratory Information Management System.
Understanding of quality management and the essential role of quality assurance & quality control aspects in the activities of a laboratory.
To participate in (blind) performance assessment schemes and to keep abreast of relevant analytical, equipment and systems developments.
Laboratory Health & Safety measures including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health.
Development of interpersonal skills including time management, steadiness in a stressful situation and team working.
3 year fix-term trainee role.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for a candidate with an Honours degree in Chemistry or a related subject who is keen to develop their skills through a three-year training programme in food and agricultural analytical methods. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and demonstrate a proactive and confident approach, along with high levels of integrity, reliability and professionalism.
