Solicitor | Chartered Legal Executive | Part-Qualified Legal Professional
Full Time (Part Time Considered)
Location: Truro, Cornwall
Salary: £35,000–£50,000 DOE + Bonus Scheme + Benefits
Key Requirements
We are looking for a lawyer who can demonstrate:
- Qualification as a Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive, or active progression towards qualification through CILEX or SQE
- Experience managing your own private client caseload with appropriate supervision
- Strong knowledge of wills, trusts and probate work
- Excellent client care and relationship management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including drafting and leadership
- Good understanding of AML compliance, risk management, and regulatory obligations
- Excellent organisational and file management skills
- A proactive, commercially aware, and collaborative approach to work
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly advantageous:
- Wills
- Trusts
- Probate & Estate Administration
- Power of Attorney
- Appointment of Deputies
- Elderly Client services
About the Role
Due to growth, Penderlaw Solicitors, a well-established and respected law firm in the heart of Truro, is seeking a Private Client Lawyer to join our successful and highly regarded Private Client Department.
This is an excellent opportunity to manage a varied and stimulating caseload within a supportive, ambitious, and highly capable team known for its proactive approach and exceptional client service. The department enjoys an excellent reputation and receives a consistent flow of high-quality instructions, including complex, high-value and high-net-worth matters.
You will work on a diverse range of private client matters, benefiting from significant client exposure and genuine opportunities for professional development. Lawyers within the department are encouraged to shape their caseloads around their strengths, interests, and career aspirations.
The firm is committed to supporting professional growth and will provide financial assistance, study leave, and examination leave where appropriate for those working towards qualification.
The role is primarily office-based and full-time, although part-time and flexible working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
You will advise and act for clients across a broad range of matters, including:
Wills
· Reviewing existing Wills
· Advising on and preparing new documents; Fixed Will, Flexible Wills, Codicils etc.
· Powers of attorney
· Flexible Will planning
· Inheritance tax and estate planning advice
· Emergency Wills
· Applications and management for Deputyships
· Living Wills
· Working closely with accountants and financial advisors, and other professions
Trusts
· Advising on and drafting a range of Trust instruments and ancillary documents
· Preparing property related Declarations of Trust
· Ongoing Trust management
· Overseeing Trusts where this firm is appointed as professional Trustee
· Trust formalities including annual reviews, TRS, considering income tax/ CGT return information, 10-year anniversaries
· Working closely with accountants and financial advisors, and other professions
Estate Administration
· Obtaining Grant of Probate for taxable and non-taxable estates to include the IHT papers
· Intestacy
· Corrective accounts, applications for reliefs and refunds with HMRC
· Deeds of Variation
· Distribution of estate assets and liaising with executors and beneficiaries
· Preparing estate accounts
· Working closely with accountants and financial advisors, and other professions
Compliance, Client Care and Teamwork
You will also be responsible for:
- Managing your own caseload with appropriate supervision
- Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, internal procedures, AML obligations, and source of funds requirements where applicable
- Delivering exceptional client care and maintaining strong professional relationships
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the firm, including Property and Litigation departments
- Supporting the continued growth and success of the department through effective file management, commercial awareness, and high service standards
- Participating in departmental and firm-wide training initiatives
Person Specification
The successful candidate will be:
- A qualified or part-qualified legal professional
- Experienced in managing their own Private Client matters
- Technically competent and committed to delivering high-quality legal services
- Client-focused with excellent interpersonal skills
- A confident communicator with strong drafting and negotiation abilities
- Organised, efficient, and capable of managing competing priorities
- Commercially aware and proactive in identifying solutions
- A collaborative team player who enjoys working closely with colleagues
- Keen to broaden their expertise and contribute to the continued success of the department
