We have an exciting opportunity for a full time, Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician to join Southampton City Council (SCC) in the Fleet Service team.
About the team
Our Fleet Services team maintains and repairs over 500 vehicles, ranging from light vans to 26 tonne refuse collection vehicles, specialist plant, and operational fleet used across the city. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards a nationally recognised qualification in vehicle maintenance.
About the role
As an apprentice, you will learn how to inspect, service, maintain and repair a wide variety of vehicles, working alongside experienced HGV technicians and supervisors in a professional local authority workshop environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Assisting qualified technicians with the maintenance and repair of HGVs, vans, and plant
- Learning safe working practices in a commercial vehicle workshop environment
- Supporting routine inspections, servicing, MOT preparation and breakdown repairs
- Developing fault finding and diagnostic skills on modern vehicles and systems
- Maintaining accurate job cards and workshop records
- Working in line with health & safety, DVSA, and council policies and procedures
- Attending college as part of your apprenticeship programme
