Job Description:
Start your career in furniture making this Summer with one of two creative, hands-on roles at Inn Gear!
- Do you love practical work? Ever thought about how the beautiful furniture in hotels, restaurants, and pubs is made? This is your chance to join Inn Gear, a brilliant Salisbury-based company designing and building bespoke furniture for hospitality venues across the UK.
- We’re looking for motivated, hands-on people to join the team as Furniture Maker Apprentices.
We have two routes to choose from:
1. Woodwork team
- You’ll learn how to create high-quality furniture from scratch, develop your woodworking skills, and be part of bringing stylish spaces to life.
What you’ll be doing:
- Working alongside experienced craftspeople, you’ll gain skills in:
- Selecting the right materials (mainly wood and boards) for different types of furniture
- Using a wide range of tools, machinery, and techniques to cut, shape and assemble furniture
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and plans
- Preparing and finishing furniture with sanding, painting, or varnishing
- Keeping your workspace clean and safe
- Problem-solving and working to deadlines to complete bespoke items for clients
2. Upholstery team
- Suiting someone with creative flair and interest in fashion and fabrics, you work alongside an experienced team to bring each piece of furniture to life, giving it comfort, style and personality.
What you’ll be doing:
- Working alongside experienced craftspeople, you’ll gain skills in:
- Selecting and preparing fabrics, foams, and other materials
- Using traditional and modern techniques to upholster furniture
- Cutting, sewing, and fixing covers for seats, sofas, stools and more
- Fitting webbing, springs and padding to frames
- Finishing each item to a high standard, ready for delivery to clients

- This apprenticeship will start in September 2026, with an introduction day taking place in July.

This job is paid at Apprenticeship Minimum Wage. This is to give you the time and space to learn the trade properly. After your apprenticeship you will be a competent furniture maker/upholsterer able to earn a good wage.

- A paid job while you learn. Inn Gear will pay you to work and study so you can get qualifications and practice using tools and techniques to help you at work
- A strong foundation for a future career hopefully with Inn Gear
- Support from Supplytrain, to make sure you stay on track at work and in learning to succeed

- Mentoring support from a Supplytrain apprenticeship coordinator who will help you settle into your role, check in monthly and be available for any issues or queries that are affecting your work or training
