Grounds Maintenance Operative

Job Purpose

To maintain and improve the appearance, safety, and condition of outdoor areas across residential and commercial locations, ensuring grounds are tidy and well-presented, whilst being compliant with health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out routine grounds maintenance tasks including:
Grass cutting, strimming, edging,
Hedge trimming, pruning, and shrub maintenance
Some weeding, planting, mulching, and general bed maintenance
Maintain paths, driveways, car parks, and hard landscaping areas
Collect and dispose of green waste and litter responsibly
Operate and maintain grounds maintenance equipment (e.g. mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, leaf blowers, )
Carry out basic maintenance checks and report faults or hazards
Work safely at all times, following health and safety procedures and risk assessments
Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly
Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and clients
Support seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, gritting, and snow clearance

Skills and Experience

Essential:

Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or outdoor manual work
Ability to use grounds maintenance machinery safely
Good understanding of health and safety practices
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team

Desirable:

Relevant qualifications (e.g. brush cutter)
Full UK driving licence
Experience working in public spaces, private gardens, housing estates, schools and colleges, or commercial sites

Personal Attributes

Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Practical and hands-on approach
Good time management and organisational skills
Willingness to learn and develop new skills

Working Conditions

Outdoor-based role in varying weather conditions
Manual handling and use of machinery required
Early starts or seasonal hours may be required

Pay: £26,000.00-£27,040.00 per year
