We are a small private music school in the middle of Christchurch. We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Piano Teacher to provide personalised piano instruction to students of various ages and skill levels.
Tuesday & Friday afternoons weekly (approx. 1.30pm-7pm) from 1st September 2026.
Lessons run in school terms & amount to 38 weeks in the year.
Responsibilities
- Deliver one-on-one piano lessons tailored to each student's ability, interests, and learning style
- Develop personalised lesson plans that promote technical skill, musicality, and enjoyment of the instrument
- Assess students' progress regularly and adjust teaching methods accordingly
- Prepare students for performances, exams, or competitions as appropriate
- Maintain a positive and encouraging atmosphere that motivates students to achieve their goals
- Keep accurate records of lessons and progress reports
- Foster a love of music through engaging teaching techniques and repertoire selection
- Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding lesson schedules, progress, and upcoming events
- Strong proficiency in Piano playing and music theory
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Recognised music qualification or equivalent experience. Degree/Diploma or equivalent is desirable, those new to teaching are encouraged to apply.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prepare customised lesson plans
- Great communication skills with a friendly demeanour
- Long term availability to guide students, particularly children, through their whole learning journey
- Ability to motivate students and adapt teaching styles as needed
- A passion for music education and fostering student development
All applicants must be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
Rate of pay (£18/hour) aligns with current private music school rates in Dorset - all admin/advertising/student bookings/marketing/shop front/bills/resources & overheads are covered by the school.
