Garden Centre Nursery / Plant Area Assistant
Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Garden Centre Nursery / Plant Area Assistant to join our team. This role involves supporting the daily operations of our plant department, assisting customers, and ensuring the nursery remains attractive and well-organised. The ideal candidate will have a passion for gardening and horticulture, excellent plant knowledge, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a busy retail environment.
Duties
- Assisting customers with plant selection and providing expert advice on gardening and horticultural topics
- Maintaining the appearance of the plant area, including watering, pruning, and watering plants as needed
- Organising stock displays and ensuring merchandise is attractively presented
- Restocking benches and managing stock.
- Supporting the team with general nursery tasks such as potting, planting, and caring for plants
- Providing information about plant care instructions.
- Ensuring health and safety standards are maintained within the nursery area
- Assisting with merchandising activities to promote seasonal plants and special offers
- Till work and seasonal changes within the retail environment such as assisting with Christmas.
Requirements
- A genuine interest in gardening, horticulture, or related fields, ideally experience within the garden centre sector.
- Excellent communication skills; ability to engage with customers effectively in English.
- Previous experience in a garden centre or nursery environment is beneficial but not mandatory; training will be provided
- Good teamwork skills with a friendly attitude towards customers and colleagues
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and work in a physical manner when required , ie pulling laden plant trolleys, stoneware / compost.
