Pascoe International designs and builds award-winning Superyacht tenders to exceptionally high standards. As part of our continued development, we are looking for an experienced Painter / Fairing & Finishing Technician to join our Paint and Composites team.
Our finishing team plays a key role in achieving the high-quality surfaces and presentation expected across our new-build semi-custom and full-custom vessels. The role focuses on the preparation and finishing of GRP and composite components, from filling, fairing and sanding through to primer preparation, gelcoat repair and final finishing.
This is a hands-on role requiring excellent attention to detail, patience and pride in workmanship. Pascoe is looking for reliable, diligent and quality-focused individuals who can work to high standards while meeting production schedules. Experience in marine, automotive, aerospace or other high-quality finishing environments would be advantageous.
Topcoat spraying experience is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with strong filling, fairing and surface preparation skills who are keen to develop their experience across primer, gelcoat repair, paint preparation and finishing processes.
Role Purpose
The Painter / Fairing & Finishing Technician is responsible for preparing GRP and composite components to a high standard of finish, ensuring parts are correctly filled, faired, sanded, cleaned and inspected before progressing through the paint and finishing process. The role requires a strong eye for detail, a practical understanding of surface preparation, and the ability to produce consistent, high-quality work in a busy production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Fill, fair and sand GRP/composite parts to the required profile, shape and surface standard, ensuring parts are ready for primer, gelcoat repair, paint or final finishing.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, degreasing, keying, masking and protecting components and surrounding areas prior to the next process stage.
- Identify and correct common surface defects including pinholes, low spots, scratches, print-through, edge damage, contamination marks and general surface imperfections.
- Apply, shape and sand filling and fairing compounds using appropriate tools, techniques and abrasive grades to achieve the required finish without overworking or damaging the component.
- Maintain profiles, edges, radii, datum lines and component geometry during preparation, ensuring the finished part retains its intended shape and appearance.
- Carry out careful inspection of own work, checking for defects, finish consistency and readiness before releasing parts to the next stage of production.
- Work closely with paint, composites, production and quality colleagues to resolve finish issues and support delivery schedules.
- Communicate quality concerns, material shortages, equipment issues or delivery risks early so that corrective action can be taken without affecting programme timescales.
Desirable Additional Skills
- Primer preparation and application, including basic mixing, spray set-up awareness, film build control and preparation for topcoat.
- Gelcoat repair skills, including colour matching, local repair application, flatting, polishing and blending into surrounding areas.
- Experience with two-component paint systems, including preparation, application support, defect correction and final finish improvement.
- Understanding of finishing standards required in marine, automotive, aerospace or other high-quality composite manufacturing environments.
Quality Responsibilities
- Take ownership of workmanship, surface finish and overall presentation of prepared components.
- Work to drawings, procedures, specifications, work instructions and agreed finish standards where applicable.
- Identify, correct and report defects before work progresses, helping to reduce rework and prevent quality issues from moving downstream.
- Complete required production, inspection and quality records accurately and in a timely manner.
- Support continuous improvement by highlighting recurring defects, process issues or opportunities to improve efficiency and finish quality.
- Keep preparation and paint areas clean, organised and controlled to minimise dust, contamination and avoidable damage.
Health & Safety
- Follow company Health & Safety procedures, site rules, risk assessments and COSHH requirements at all times.
- Use suitable PPE and respiratory protection when required, ensuring equipment is worn correctly and maintained in good condition.
- Handle paints, solvents, fillers, hardeners, adhesives and other chemicals safely and in line with manufacturer and company guidance.
- Use sanding, extraction, spray booth, air tools and other workshop equipment correctly, reporting faults or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards to reduce dust, fire risk, trip hazards and contamination within preparation and paint areas.
- Report hazards, spills, near misses, damaged equipment or unsafe working practices promptly to the appropriate supervisor or manager.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in filling, fairing, sanding and surface preparation, ideally within GRP, composites, marine, automotive, aerospace or similar finishing work.
- Good understanding of abrasives, sanding techniques, surface profiles and defect correction methods.
- Ability to recognise surface defects and understand the preparation required to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish.
- High attention to detail, patience and pride in workmanship, particularly when working on visible or customer-facing components.
- Ability to work efficiently, independently and as part of a wider production team while maintaining quality standards.
- Good communication skills and a positive, practical approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Desirable
- Experience in GRP/composite component finishing, particularly on moulded parts, visible surfaces or high-quality production components.
- Experience within marine, automotive, aerospace or high-end industrial finishing environments where appearance, accuracy and repeatability are important.
- Primer spraying, gelcoat repair, topcoat application, flatting, polishing, blending or final finish correction experience.
- Knowledge of two-component paint systems, curing times, mixing ratios and safe handling requirements.
- Experience working in a quality-controlled production environment with structured processes, inspection points and delivery deadlines.
Personal Attributes
We are looking for someone reliable, detail-focused and quality-driven, with a practical approach and the ability to take pride in producing a clean, accurate and consistent finish. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with their hands, able to follow instructions and specifications, and confident raising concerns early where quality, safety or delivery may be affected. A willingness to learn, support others and develop further finishing skills will be highly valued.
Topcoat spraying experience is not essential where the candidate can demonstrate strong filling, fairing and preparation skills, good attention to finish quality, and a genuine willingness to develop further capability in primer, gelcoat repair, paint preparation and finishing processes.

Monday - Thursday 10 hours per day
