Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire - Town Hall

The Scarborough CCTV control room makes a major contribution to the safety of our streets in Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, Eastfield, Malton, Norton and Pickering; but it is only as good as the small team of operatives who staff the control room. You will lead a team of diligent and dedicated CCTV Operators and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Scarborough CCTV control room.

This is a varied role that involves ensuring regulatory compliance, regular liaison with partner agencies, contractors and stakeholders, auditing, rota management, attendance at professional and public meetings, dealing with queries and/or complaints and any other associated duties to ensure seamless, continued operation of the service. You will be responsible for resolving day-to-day issues and queries within a CCTV team that operates a 24/7 service, determining staff deployment, organising staff cover due to absence and ensuring appropriate staffing levels are in place for specific events or operations. Consequently, you will be a good leader, with the ability to work under pressure, from your own initiative, make decisions confidently and multitask.

You will work closely with partner agencies, such as North Yorkshire Police, and CCTV maintenance contractors, monitoring performance and compliance; as such, you will be expected to confidently liaise with internal colleagues and external partners. Strong customer service skills are essential as you will be liaising with stakeholder, customers and dealing with complaints.

You will have experience of computer systems, data base entry and a range of computer software. Have, or be willing to work towards, a Level 2 Award for working as a CCTV Operator. Ideally, have experience operating and monitoring surveillance equipment and digital recording equipment, or the ability to learn how to monitor cameras within a control room environment. Be competent in the use of two-way radios, understand radio terminology and be responsible for compliance and procedures. Knowledge of Data Protection, Human Rights and Regulation of Investigatory Powers Acts, Privacy Impact Assessments, Information Sharing Protocols and guidance issued by the ICO would be beneficial, as you will be required to identify improvements to service or procedures within the control room to ensure compliance with legislative updates.

Be prepared to undertake an eyesight and/or hearing test where required. Working times are, predominantly, office hours, however there may be times you will be required to work long and unsociable hours to ensure continuous service provision; this can include nights, weekends and public holidays. Therefore, you should be willing to work long shifts and on your own initiative at times; shift times are, predominantly, 12 hours and require confidence in lone-working.

Postholders will be subject to NPPV2 Police Vetting for Airwaves Radio compliance with the Official Secrets Act 1989.
