The Community School of Auchterarder
We currently have an opportunity for an Instrumental Music Instructor (Brass) to support the delivery of high-quality instrumental music instruction within The Community School of Auchterarder.
The post holder will contribute to individual, group and ensemble tuition, inspiring young people through inclusive, progressive and engaging brass teaching which supports the aims of Curriculum for Excellence.
As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates will be asked to deliver an observed instrumental brass lesson, appropriate to a school based setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver brass instruction to pupils in individual, group and ensemble settings.
- Tutor specific sections of bands and ensembles where appropriate.
- Foster creativity, confidence and enjoyment of music in young people.
- Support pupils’ musical progression from beginner through to more advanced levels, as appropriate to the setting.
- Work collaboratively with school staff, the Instrumental Music Service and other instructors.
- Assist with concerts, performances and school music activities when required.
- Promote positive behaviour and ensure a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all pupils.

Essential:
- Proficiency in brass instrument, and strong musical knowledge, educated to degree level in music.
- Experience teaching children, ideally in a school or community setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, young people, staff and parents / carers
- Strong classroom management and organisational skills.
- PVG Scheme membership (or willingness to join prior to start).
- Access to transport to travel between schools.
- You must have a valid UK driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with the Curriculum for Excellence and inclusive music education approaches.
- Experience of working within a primary and secondary school environment
- Ability to adapt teaching methods for learners with additional support needs.
