Job Summary
The Joiner is responsible for carrying out planned, reactive and void property joinery works within a maintenance environment. The role involves completing high-quality joinery repairs, installations and maintenance tasks safely, efficiently and to the required client, company and regulatory standards.
The post holder must be capable of working in occupied homes, public buildings, commercial premises and construction-related environments, ensuring works are completed with minimal disruption to residents, clients, staff and members of the public.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
·Carry out general joinery repairs, maintenance and installation works across domestic, commercial and public sector properties.
Undertake reactive maintenance works, planned maintenance works, void property repairs, refurbishment works and minor project works as required.
Fit, repair and replace doors, frames, skirtings, facings, architraves, ironmongery, flooring, windows, kitchen units, worktops, partitions, ceilings, boxing-in, access panels and other joinery components.
Carry out fire door repairs, adjustments and associated joinery works where competent and authorised to do so.
Complete first fix and second fix joinery tasks to a high standard.
Measure, cut, shape, assemble and install timber, sheet materials and manufactured joinery products.
Identify materials required for each job and ensure works are planned and completed efficiently.
Read and interpret job instructions, drawings, specifications, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
Attend properties and sites in a professional manner, respecting residents, tenants, clients and their belongings.
Protect work areas using appropriate coverings, barriers and dust control measures.
Ensure work areas are left clean, tidy and safe on completion.
Report any additional works, defects, unsafe conditions, access issues, safeguarding concerns or property damage to the Supervisor or office team.
Complete job records, photographs, timesheets, inspection records and any required paperwork or electronic updates accurately and on time.
Use company systems, mobile devices or job management software as required.
Work alongside other trades, supervisors, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure works are completed effectively.
Ensure materials, tools and equipment are used safely, maintained correctly and stored securely.
Operate hand tools, power tools and access equipment only where trained and competent.
Comply with company policies, site rules, client procedures and all applicable health, safety, environmental and quality requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
· Education: SVQ Level 3 in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent qualification (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ)
· Certification: CSCS card or ability to obtain one preferable
· Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a maintenance or construction environment
· Knowledge: Carpentry Techniques, Tool proficiency, Building Codes and Regulations, material properties, building maintenance
· Skills:
- Proficiency in carpentry and joinery techniques, including hand and power tool operation.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
· Technology:
- Be comfortable with smartphones/tablets for accessing work schedules and communication tools.
- Familiarity with power tools and machinery and their safety features
