An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Orthodontist to join a well-established Consultant-led Orthodontic service in Scotland. This permanent position offers the opportunity to work within a modern multidisciplinary dental team, providing specialist orthodontic care while developing expertise in complex dentofacial, craniofacial and hypodontia cases. Colleagues in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery will support the service and offer excellent opportunities for professional development, teaching, and research.

Main Responsibilities

Provide Consultant-led diagnostic and advisory orthodontic services.
Manage patients requiring complex orthodontic treatment.
Lead the interdisciplinary management of dentofacial, craniofacial and hypodontia cases.
Participate in multidisciplinary Orthognathic and Craniofacial clinics.
Plan and manage orthodontic treatment alongside Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery colleagues.
Provide orthodontic planning for dento-alveolar surgical cases.
Manage multidisciplinary restorative and oral surgery cases.
Supervise and support training-grade staff.
Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities.
Contribute to departmental leadership and service development.

The Department

You will work within a collaborative multidisciplinary team comprising:

Consultant Orthodontists.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Consultants.
Core Trainees.
Experienced Orthodontic Nurses.
Dedicated Orthodontic and OMFS Coordinator.
Administrative support staff.
Access to modern digital imaging, clinical photography and electronic patient records.

The Orthodontics and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery departments work closely together, sharing clinical facilities and delivering integrated patient care.

Teaching, Research & Development

The successful applicant will benefit from opportunities to:

Teach undergraduate dental students and postgraduate trainees.
Supervise junior dental staff and Core Trainees.
Participate in clinical audit and governance.
Develop clinical research interests.
Contribute to service improvement initiatives.
Access funded study leave and Continuing Professional Development.
Work within a modern education centre supporting multidisciplinary learning.

Person Specification

Requirements

Essential

Full GDC Registration and Licence to Practise.
BDS or equivalent qualification.
MOrth RCS (or equivalent).
ISFE/FDSRCS in Orthodontics (or equivalent), or within six months of completion.
Completion of recognised specialist orthodontic training.
Broad experience in Consultant-level orthodontic practice.
Experience managing complex dentofacial, craniofacial and hypodontia cases.
Strong multidisciplinary working skills.
Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Commitment to patient safety, clinical governance and continuous improvement.
Ability to supervise and teach junior staff.

Desirable

Additional academic qualifications in Orthodontics.
Experience in related dental specialities.
Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
Research publications or presentations.
Experience in clinical governance and audit.
Leadership or service development experience.
Interest in innovation and quality improvement.
