About the role
GKPA are seeking a creative, enthusiastic and reliable Director / Choreographer for our upcoming production of SIX: Teen Edition.
This role is ideal for a theatre practitioner with experience in youth theatre, musical theatre direction and choreography. The successful candidate will work with a teen cast to create a confident, polished and exciting production, supporting young performers throughout the rehearsal process and helping them develop their performance skills.
The project will run from August 2026 to February 2027.
Key responsibilities
- Direct the full production of SIX: Teen Edition
- Choreograph and teach movement and dance routines suitable for a teen cast
- Lead rehearsals in a positive, organised and professional manner
- Work closely with the production team, musical director and GKPA staff
- Support young performers with character work, staging, confidence and performance skills
- Adapt choreography and direction to suit different abilities and experience levels
- Maintain a safe, inclusive and encouraging rehearsal environment
- Attend production meetings, rehearsals, technical rehearsals and performances as required
- Communicate clearly with staff, cast members and the wider creative team
- Help deliver a high-quality youth theatre production
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in directing and/or choreographing musical theatre
- Confident working with young performers
- Creative, enthusiastic and organised
- Reliable and committed throughout the rehearsal period
- Able to motivate and inspire a teen cast
- Confident teaching choreography and staging musical numbers
- A strong communicator and team player
- Passionate about youth theatre and performer development
Essential requirements
- Experience in musical theatre direction and choreography
- Experience working with children or young people
- Strong rehearsal leadership skills
- Availability from August 2026 to February 2027
- Commitment to safeguarding and creating a positive rehearsal environment
Desirable requirements
- Previous experience working on youth or junior productions
- Dance or movement teaching experience
- Knowledge of SIX or similar contemporary musical theatre styles
