About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary engineering team, supporting current operations and future programmes in a highly regulated nuclear environment.
Working alongside a range of engineering disciplines, you will support the development, assessment, and maintenance of engineering design substantiation documents for critical infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex, high-profile projects within a supportive and technically challenging environment.
Key Deliverables:
- Author, assess, maintain, and manage infrastructure design substantiation documents.
- Support the development and management of engineering design changes and concessions.
- Present technical information to site safety committees and internal stakeholders.
- Produce and develop Examination, Inspection, Maintenance, and Operating procedures.
- Produce and assess Periodic Review of Safety reports.
- Provide technical advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders.
- Produce Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) and Independent Peer Review (IPR) scopes of work.
- Apply engineering knowledge to support the design, operation, maintenance, commissioning, and decommissioning of engineering systems within a nuclear/high-risk environment.
- Produce robust technical justifications for civil and structural design modifications.
- Review technical reports and safety case submissions from external contractors.
- Check and review calculations and technical documents produced by other engineers.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with current legislation, British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry best practice.
Key Requirements / Qualifications:
Essential:
- Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Degree qualified in Engineering or relevant discipline.
- Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design assessment of reinforced concrete and steelwork structures.
- Experience assessing structures subjected to dynamic loading including earthquake, blast, wind, rain, and snow loading.
- Experience working on reinforced concrete structures, seawalls, and jetties.
- Experience producing technical justifications for design modifications within a high-hazard industry.
Desirable:
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards Chartership).
- Experience within highly regulated sectors.
- Familiarity with safety case development techniques such as HAZID and HAZOP studies.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
