We are looking to build long-term relationships with talented freelance Architects or Architectural Designers to work alongside a growing construction and design company operating across the Midlands.
The role is ideal for someone who is confident producing residential extension and renovation drawings and is interested in generating ongoing work through a design-and-build partnership.
About the Role
We regularly deal with homeowners looking for:
- Single & double storey extensions
- Loft conversions
- Full renovations
- Internal alterations
- Open-plan structural works
- Planning & permitted development advice
We are looking for someone who can assist with:
- Measured surveys
- Existing & proposed drawings
- Planning applications
- Permitted development applications
- Building regulations drawings
- Structural coordination
- Client consultations
What We’re Looking For
- Experience with UK residential projects
- Good communication skills with clients
- Able to work independently
- Based within or reasonably close to Birmingham / Midlands preferred
- Familiar with planning and permitted development processes
- Reliable turnaround times

Duties
- Develop conceptual and detailed architectural designs using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD, Rhino 3D, Grasshopper 3D, SketchUp, and NavisWorks.
- Prepare comprehensive presentation materials employing Adobe Creative Suite and Sketch.
- Collaborate with clients and consultants to understand project requirements, providing expert advice and negotiation to align expectations.
- Create accurate construction documentation including joinery details and technical specifications.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables ensuring all phases meet quality standards.
- Conduct site visits as necessary to oversee construction progress and ensure design integrity.
- Coordinate with contractors and suppliers during the construction phase to facilitate smooth execution of designs.
- Stay updated on industry trends, building codes, and sustainable practices to incorporate into design solutions.
Experience
- Proven experience in architectural design or related fields, with a strong portfolio demonstrating diverse project involvement.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD; 3D modelling tools including Rhino 3D, Grasshopper 3D, SketchUp; and rendering tools within Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience in construction processes and joinery detailing is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability in project management from initial concept through completion.
- Strong negotiation skills for liaising with clients, contractors, and suppliers effectively.
- Familiarity with NavisWorks for clash detection and coordination; knowledge of 3ds Max is advantageous but not essential. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a creative professional seeking flexible freelance work within a dynamic architectural environment.
