Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

To support effective clinical care by delivering efficient Health Records, administrative, clerical and receptionist services. The role involves maintaining accurate and confidential patient records, managing patient information systems, and handling a high volume of calls to book, amend and cancel outpatient appointments while providing excellent service to patients.

Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Full-time

Shift Pattern - Monday & Friday: 0800-1630/60 - Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday: 0800-1600/60

Base location - Glasgow Royal Infirmary

Key responsibilities:

Provide an efficient Health Records service to support effective clinical care.
Administer and process outpatient clinic, day case and inpatient admission appointments accurately.
Ensure patient health records remain confidential, secure and available when required.
Deliver administrative, clerical and receptionist services.
Maintain electronic and paper-based patient record systems.
Ensure patient information is accurate, confidential and up to date.
Continuously check and update patient demographic and administrative details on the Patient Management System.
Handle high volumes of incoming and outgoing telephone calls.
Book, cancel and rearrange outpatient appointments.
Provide patients with clear, accurate and helpful information.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential:

National 4 or Level 1 qualification in three subjects, including English, or equivalent.
Computer literate with good keyboard skills.

Desirable:

General administration, office or previous clerical experience.
Previous reception experience.
Experience using a Patient Management System.

Training:

Training will be provided for the Patient Management System if required.
